I've told you before about a dude I know who claimed god cured him of being gay, and in an earlier thread I mentioned he claims god has forsaken him and he's regressed back to the way he was... and now... he doesn't wanna talk to me anymore, so it's none of my concern. He said some pretentious shit about going on a "vow of sorrow" for God.
That's like abstinence. But instead of sex, it's with everything... don't watch your favorite shows, don't talk to your friends (I don't think of him as a friend anyway), no drinking, no weed, no outdoor activities... just... nothing. No fun stuff... fun is not allowed. Apparently he purposely gave a lot of valuable shit to punish himself. He got rid of some of his instruments, which pisses me off, cause I would have bought that shit off him if he didn't.

Now... I obviously don't believe his ass, I'm sure he's lying to get people to feel sorry for him. I really could not give a shit, however, I do wanna know... Let's pretend he's telling the truth.

If one vowed to suppress all possitive emotions, would it be possible or impossible? and for how long would it be possible? Let's say for whatever reason someone decided to suppress all their happiness... by say... thinking sad thoughts all the time, and getting mad on purpose, maybe hurting ones self, or getting rid of cherished items... Let's say deleting all of ones music, selling all of ones games, movies, collectibles, and just getting rid of cherished stuff... self harm and isolation could work, as well as not using social media.

Is it possible the brain would freak out due to lack of possitive stimuli and then you'd have no choice but to stop, or would you just continue being depressed.

I think your friend (former friend? Acquaintance? Whatever you wanna call him) needs to see a therapist... And you as well!

Well... we weren't ever really friends, I just don't hate him... that's really about it, he's not an enemy, nor would I wanna hang out or anything. If he says something, I'll respond, you know.. I'm not rude or mean or anything.

but forget about him, I guarantee he'll be talking to me about something in a week or so... This ain't the first time he's gotten like that. He's been like that for years... but now is when he brings up this whole "vow of sorrow" thing.

Aren't meds supposed to suppress depression, not happyness?

Is it possible to suppress your positive emotions? Yeah it's entirely possible to do so indefinitely. Now to do so without breaking yourself, that's another story...

I know you're making fun of me... but come on man, I don't get it.
"Reek?"

I feel stupid cause I don't get the word "Reek" and I don't get the picture... So I don't get the joke, and it's making me feel ignorant.

But I don't know though... after a while, I mean, could your brain allow you to stay in a depressive state for that long?

Meds can do lots of things suppress depression but also make you feel numb so then your not happy or sad zombie effect. People take meds and drink causing roller coaster emotions up up up down down down

He must of been on some kind of roller coaster.. that stupid son of a bitch got rid of his Epiphone SG... And it was an epiphone but it was still one of the pricier epiphones... He fucking got rid of at a fucking thrift store... Why didn't he just give it to me?
It was nice too, it was red and looked like Angus Young's guitar.
And I wanted that SG so bad ever since high school.

Come to think about it, that dude needs some meds if he'd do some shit like that.

Anyone can supress all emotion for as long as you want. Though the effects of doing so might not be that great in the long run.

Then you have apathetic people like me...

You have to watch game of thrones to understand it.

Isn't that just cherophobia?

Anyway, its not a good idea to surpress any sort of feelings. You'll break. Having restrictions on yourself will drive you insane.

So yes, it would.

Yep... though according to wikipedia it's usually done by non-western cutlures for the sake of improving ones moral status. However, he's doing it to punish himself for being gay apparently... Though he may not be gay, he may be bi... where I'm from we use "gay" or "fag" to refer to all non-straight people... I'm not saying that's good, it's just how it is.
The only exception are lesbians, we refer to them as "hot"
Lesbiaphobia was not tolerated by peers
