When you start burying more friends then you care to remember, your views on life tend to get jaded.

I like the elderly. They are quite wise or bitter due to all of the hardships in their life. I consider them brave for going through so much. Sometimes I think its pretty cool when I see someone who is much older than me like anime or play video games.

First it's your grandparents and great uncles. then it's your parents and aunts and uncles. suddenly they're all gone and there's no one left to die in your circle but the ones the same age as you.

Meanwhile that cute little baby is a bank manager.

As my profession is driving most of the time, the only thing I really dislike about the elderly is how slow they drive. I don't mind them walking slow, I can walk around them... But slow drivers...

Worse is friend's kids. I have a bad feeling I'm going to be cursed with long life and good memory.

Hey, wait a minute.Since I fall under the age bracket you mentioned and as one of the dreaded "old people" is there any way I can redeem myself without actually dying? That's pretty much a one time shot unless you're a Hindu.I'm sure if you met me and I introduced you to some of my Australopithecine friends it might alter your jaded perception alleviating the need to take one more cringeworthy memory well into your declining years. At the rate you're going, you're going to have many, as do I.You made my day OP.I haven't stopped laughing since I read your post.

I have no opinion. My grandparents hold outdated views but luckily there views on race arent outdated so its generally not awkward when I talk to them.

They've been through it all, and experienced things that we are yet to.
I personally find them interesting, I like listening about what life was like for them, and the sort of things they've been through. Yeah, some are harsh and bitter and some are nice. But, that doesn't just apply to 'old' people.

Close minded much?

Do you realize how much change a 65 year old has endured since they were a child my father as a small child remembers listening to his favorite radio program after school, when his father brought home the first television set on the block it was larger than a washing machine with a 6 inch screen and took 15-20 min to warm up. His generation has adapted to technological change at a pace far greater than anywhere in the history except maybe the generation after the fall of the roman empire and the slide into the dark ages. As for younger generations becoming anti-social due to technology that is the scientific opinion of the day, not just the opinion older people. With the substitution of tech where interpersonal relationships used to be and devices which provide instant access and gratification. Younger generations have become self-centric I see it in my 13 year old daughter and work to keep it and those behaviors which feed it in check. As you age you will realize that those old people who you see as inflexible and rude simply have reached a point where they no longer need to impress or care about being acceptable for others sake they just want to be who they have become and are content with that. 1926 Really? How old are you talking. My grandma is that old then again she came to this country by ship through Ellis Island and being almost a centennial her Generation not wanting to use banks is a left over fear from the little thing called the great depression and predating things like FDIC insured accounts.... As far as i can tell your young so rather than judge someone by their opinions take to time to ask why someone feels the way they do read a little learn about the whens that shaped them rather than rushing to judgment..

Just the thoughts of a middle aged man (35)

I love them. They are very interesting people and they tell the best stories. Then again, if you're way too focused on how "wrong" you think their way of thinking is, you probably won't understand just how awesome they are. I feel bad for you.

As part of the "Old" you disdain, I am sorry you feel that way. Its true, we probably don't share all the same passions (or lack there of in some cases), but doesn't mean there is no common ground; otherwise, it would be unlikely I would have ever read the original post (we are both on an anime forum).

I will say, I do like many the same things the younger generation likes, I like cell phones (don't even have a 'land line"), would keel over dead without a internet connection, sometimes chat with my daughter on phone text chat who is in the next room or across the dinner table.

So, don't hate us all... just the ones that do you direct injustice, then you have my support to hate on us 'old.'

Here is a quote from Aristotle:

They [Young People] have exalted notions, because they have not been humbled by life or learned its necessary limitations; moreover, their hopeful disposition makes them think themselves equal to great things -- and that means having exalted notions. They would always rather do noble deeds than useful ones: Their lives are regulated more by moral feeling than by reasoning -- all their mistakes are in the direction of doing things excessively and vehemently. They overdo everything -- they love too much, hate too much, and the same with everything else.

This shows you that things haven't changed much in the last 2,300 years.
