"Petition" To Bring Back Extended Discussion Forums
Posted 6/17/15 , edited 6/17/15
I'm sure everyone here remembers when there were two separate discussion forums. There was this, General Discussion, which was the lighter, more conversational stuff. Then there was Extended Discussion, which was the more debate or controversial stuff.

They got rid of it a while ago.

I say we need it again.

Why? General Discussion forums have become too fixated on topics that aren't doing anything but causing arguments and bans, and clearly do not fit in the forums here.

I've heard many different users say that the influx of these have really changed the community here, and I think we need to split the forums again.

So I'm hoping if enough people agree, Crunchyroll will bring back the other forums OR make a new forums for the discussions people seem to be pushing here. To add, I'm not against these posts entirely, it's just they've done more harm than good here.

Please vote --

Back to extended discussion where it's around 3 stubborn closedminded people arguing against other?

As soon as they closed those forums, this forum became host to those same topics. I'm not saying they shouldn't have the right to have those threads but I do think we need separate places for them.

I actually like it as it is now, since there was much less traffic for the controversial topics back when extended discussions was still around. Now, all the forumites see it and weigh in, even the ones who never went to extended discussions.

There are more intelligent posts in the controversial topics now, IMO. Before, it was like...the same couple of people arguing against one another and it was quite boring. I like seeing several perspectives rather than just the same two or three.

I agree. Also, if they do add extended discussions, put it on the front page forums.

Or better yet, simply name it "silversongwriter's threads".

I still think the issue isn't the actual topics and posts. It's that people don't know how to be mature in the debates. Happens on all the forums I've been to. It's actually not that bad at all here.

It got so twisted in one forum that people were voting to ban controversial topics or other topics that would "make people feel bad." I got out of there right away.

So then if not re-open those forums we need to tighten the rules of what "general" is because daily social issue posts/feminism/racism/etc isn't doing any good.

Why? General is what is exactly what it says, general, anything that doesn't really belong in any of the other forum niches go here. And why isn't it "doing any good" anyway.

Too late, he's gone where the goblins go, below, below, yo-ho...

Superior choice is to create superior threads that peeps can have fun with.

The E.D board members aren't completely dysfunctional, and have joined with the culture here to erect new monuments to lulzdom.

I've been to forums where politics and religion were off the table. They work quite nicely.

Requires decisive and clear enforcement policies though.

You can pick any subject and there's bound to be someone out there that has strong feelings about it.Since there is a wide range of age and experience levels represented in the forums there is bound to be some latent immaturity.I've been a little surprised ,especially as of late, by the amount of discriminatory verbiage tolerated by the moderators.

It's downright stunning what I've seen allowed in the forums these days.
