"Looks like I'm going to die," Kana thought to himself as his body plummeted towards the river below. Time seemed to move much slower, despite the current situation. "Maybe this is my punishment..." His thoughts returned to a time long past, before he journeyed to this world.

A young boy plays in the snow, kicking and screeching with delight as a faceless old lady stares on in happiness. The scene changes: the boy has aged several years, and the old lady is gone. Hard times had matured his face, weathering it until the innocence had left his eyes. The boy is running around a city barefoot, and swipes an apple from a cart for his lunch. The next scene: it is night, and the boy stands alone in the remains of the same city. The buildings had been devoured by fire--the inhabitants are gone. A lone girl stands opposite him, pointing with hatred in her eyes.

"I'm sorry," Kana mouths as he descends, tears forming in his eyes. He closes them, awaiting the cold, watery embrace of death. Instead, he is met by something much warmer, like two arms, a body...

Kana opens his eyes to find himself staring at the face of Elinor. "What are you doing?!" He yells at her, the wind whistling in his ears and making it difficult to hear himself. "Now we're both going to die!" She seems to ignore him, and as they approach the bottom she spreads out her wings, slowing their descent.

"You can fly?!" Kana exclaims.

Elinor's feet brushed the ground and she lets out a sigh of relief. Her wings went down and they both landed safely. She let go of the boy as she heard him say, "You can fly?!" With much surprise. In Elinor's mind she felt the same as him. "I can fly..?" She would ask herself. However, even though she felt the same, her face didn't show it. The girl wore the look of: Are you fucking stupid?

Elinor's left eyebrow rose as she looked at the stressed out kid. "Well. I have feathers growing out of my fucking back.." She said under her breath. "Yes, I can.. Cool huh?" She said a bit louder. Hoping he didn't hear what she said before. She didn't want to be to mean.. He did almost die.

Elinor looked at him as if he was an idiot. "Well, it would've been nice if you flew earlier..." Kana mumbled to himself. He decided not to pursue the topic, seeing as there were more pressing matters. The creature that was pursuing them was nowhere in sight--presumably swept away by the current--but they were now stuck on a rocky ledge at the bottom of the ravine. "Do you think you can fly us out?" Kana asked Elinor.

Elinor looked around and noticed their situation. "Well.. You see.. I didn't know I could fly just then.. It was kinda out of instinct you know? I don't know how to fly on command yet..." Elinor laughed nervously while she scratched the back of her head. She noticed the water was rushing by fast. And the monster was gone. But that doesn't mean he couldn't come back. The girl clenched her fists, closed her eyes, and tried to concentrate. She could feel her muscles move a little, but not enough to fly them out.

"What if we climbed it?" Kana pondered aloud. He wasn't much of a rock climber, but maybe... Kana hugs the wall and grips a small rock that juts out above him. "One limb at a time..." Kana muttered to himself as he scaled the face. He was now ten feet above the ledge at which he started when--

"GAHHHH!" Kana yelled as a rock under his hand have way. With a loud crash, he unceremoniously smacked against the ground. "Ow ow ow..." He began to cringe, when something moved ahead of him. Or, to be more precise, a part of the cliff face began to move inward, sliding away to reveal a tunnel.

Elinor opened one eye to see what had happen. The crash had startled her and made her jump slightly. "Are you okay???" She asked as she rushed over to the boy. When she noticed he wasn't bleeding or anything she looked up at what she thought was gonna be a disaster. "Oh! Look what we have here.. Now we can just go through there instead of climbing!" The girl said with false excitement. She tried to hide the fact that The tunnel looked hella scary, not safe, and it probably smelled.

"That tunnel looks... really scary..." Kana muttered aloud. "But seeing as how that's the only way out..." He stepped foot into the dark, dank tunnel, his footsteps echoing against the walls. A slight breeze whistled in his ear accompanied by... wait... was that whispering?

Oh crap, this is bad, Kana alarmingly thought to himself. Screw it, I don't care if she knows I can use magic because this is creepy as all Hell. His hand reached and grabbed a slip of paper from his back pocket along with a pencil, and, after quickly jotting down some symbols, threw it up in the air. "Light," he commanded the slip. With that, the slip transformed into a small ethereal orb of light which cast its glow several yards in all directions; however, the darkness quickly stopped the light from extending any further. As Kana continued into the cave, he looked back at Elinor: "You coming?" He asked.

Elinor tilted her head to the side as she rose an eyebrow. "That's is..? You are just going to go walk into that cave without.. inspecting?" The girls eyes widened as she saw the boy do the light trick. ""Waaiitt. How did you do that?" She ran over to him, looking at the bulb. Almost forgetting about the creepy cave. "Cooll..." Elinor said softly to herself.

"It's magic," Kana said hurriedly. "I'll explain once we get out of here. First off, do you hear that noise?" The whispers seemed to grow a bit quieter ever since he cast that light, but they seemed a bit more... aggravated. But this is the only way out... Kana thought to himself. The air seemed to grow colder, despite the closeness of the entrance, and he shivered a bit.

Elinor forced herself forward as her eyes darted back and forth. She couldn't see much ahead of the light and she did indeed hear the whispers. The hairs on her back stood up and she gained goosebumps on her skin. She didn't enjoy scary things often. "How much longer in here...?" She whispered.

"I hope not much longer," Kana replied, "but if we have to, we can always head--" He was cut off by a rumbling that shook the cave. An earthquake? Kana thought to himself. He turned back to look at the entrance, but he soon realized: "It's blocked." The statement echoed off the cave walls, definite and clear like the rocks that blocked the outside light. They were trapped in the side of the cliff face: their only option now was forward.

"That's.. Just great.." She mumbled to herself. The girl shuffled forward. Now that the cave was closed, there was less light than before. The girl shivered a bit."Are you sure there is a way out at the end of this tunnel and not a dead end..?" Elinor her something moving up ahead. Something like a mouse or a rat. She stopped and tried to listen. "H-hello..?" She asked. She knew if it was some type of animal that it wouldn't respond, but she was hoping that it would run out of where it was hiding and show itself.

Kana heard something scurrying farther in the tunnel: was it some rat or something? Probably, Kana thought nervously to himself.

"I mean, tunnels aren't just built for no reason, right? This probably leads somewhere," Kana replied, attempting to reassure both Elinor and himself. With each step he took, the whispers seemed to grow louder and louder, as if they were coming from somewhere deep within the tunnel. Kana continued forward, plunging into the darkness with fear lingering in his body.

Elinor tilted her head to the side and then sighed when the boy began to move over. She could also hear the whispers and she wanted to change the subject to a happier one. "So.. uh.. did you ever tell me your name..? I kind of forgot.." She asked. Hoping if she didn't think about the scary noises they would go away.

"It's Kanahashi Yuuki," Kana replied, his voice shaking a bit. He felt his skin crawl as the air grew colder and colder. The tunnel seemed to stretch forever, and Kana strained his eyes to see if he could make out something--anything--in the distance, but such an effort proved futile. "Yuuki means courage, and Kanahashi means story." It was a tiny lie, but given the circumstances Kana didn't want to add to the atmosphere.

As Kana continued down the tunnel, another noise--almost like clicking--joined the whispers, along with a pale green light in the distance. Light? Kana thought to himself. Is that the surface? He quickened his pace, but when he found the source, Kana was sorely disappointed. It was not the surface, but instead a vast circular room, with strange crystals erupting from the ground. And something was lying in the middle.
