Should a transgender fighter be allowed to fight women?
Posted 6/18/15 , edited 6/18/15
This a topic that really interests me since I'm into fighting and MMA. Anyway, this article came out not too long ago about transgendered (is that correct?) fighter Fallon Fox causing devastating injuries to her female opponent.

http://thelibertarianrepublic.com/transgender-mma-fighter-destroys-female-opponent/

An orbital bone fracture in a fight is not uncommon; however, they are mostly seen in male fights, not in female fights. Such serious injuries are not commonplace in women's fights. Don't get me wrong, they are strong, but not THAT strong. There are STILL physiological differences between a female body and a male body besides having different reproductive organs. It is because of this that I believe she, Fallon Fox, should not be fighting women even if she has completed her switch to becoming a woman. Physically speaking, a sex change operation and some hormone therapy will not completely change her bone structure and musculature to match a woman's. It's an unfair advantage, in my opinion. I have no problem with her wanting to identify as a woman and wanting to live her life as a woman. That's all good. What I cannot agree with is allowing her to join the female division of a contact sport where she might have an unfair advantage that would put her opponents at risk.

What about you, what do you think of this issue?

EDIT: Here is an interesting article I found (while reading up on the topic) that justifies why Fallon Fox IS a woman and should be allowed to continue fighting women.

http://www.vice.com/read/fallon-fox-is-a-woman-get-over-it-925

According to the article, medical experts have said that she does not have an unfair advantage and does "fall within the physical parameters of woman," which is very interesting to hear. It says in the article that if women fighters should feel uncertain about fighting a transgender person, they can simply refuse the fight. I kind of agree with this reasoning and it's not like Fox is undefeated. She has been TKO'd by Ashlee Evans-Smith-- a natural born woman; however, I will point out that Fox's being transgender was not made known to the first three women who fought her. THAT is completely unacceptable, in my opinion.

Even after reading that article, I'm still pretty skeptical about it being completely okay to let her fight other women. I'm not sure what it is that is making me feel strongly about that, but at the moment, it's something that I think should not be allowed.

Throwing aside the whole debate going on in the other thread about transgenders, this particular situation basically boils down to a man beating on women. I know I'm putting that simply, but that's what it is. Fox is at an unfair advantage and abusing the transgender status to do so.

That's not okay and I don't care which side of the argument people are on with the transgender issue. This is pretty obvious. Besides, if I recall correctly Fox wasn't exactly doing well in the mens fights. Kind of makes me wonder if that had anything to do with this.

Not sure about what this Fox would make but they're probably both just about that money.

No difference to a corrupt banker.
Edit: Okay, ignore legality xD.

Can still make money fighting guys... But I guess getting wins over women makes it easier. *shrug*

I wonder why Mayweather doesn't fight women, then. I heard he likes to beat on them anyway.

I don't think he has one to "hurt" anyway. It's not like people love him.

But yeah, this is off-topic. No more derailing my thread, you...

This is why we end up having sports specifically for women to compete with other women. Most times, it ends up being a clearly unfair advantage due to mainly different body structures. Also men just don't wanna possibly lose against a women especially in sports. Either not let them compete at all, or beat em. Either way, it'll make them look "weak".
Women are usually more stronger around their lower bodies rather than their upper bodies like men. They also try to be flexible as well. They wanna be more endurant rather than just being strong. Hence, why you often see women doing stuff like gymnastics and ballet. And then men doing boxing & wrestling.

If he wasn't a boxer, it probably would.
If he was part of a more mainstream sport like football or basketball (especially a very big one) definitely.

Actually, I don't have to say anything about this. Either way, it doesn't affect what I wrote.
