Oh, I have major depression, but half the time I try and be extremely happy. I don't like saying I try to be happy, because I'm always feeling like I am enjoying things, having fun with the people I normally do, watching anime, cosplaying, or art in general. I feel happy. I also have anxiety, I guess that and thinking deeply about other things that are unpleasant in my life, it triggers my depression, and it just gets bad. It's weird. I have major depression, but I rarely get depressed..and if I do, it's real bad?
I' ve had horrible experiences in the past, butttt I learned not to give a crap anymore so I'm pretty happy, and out-going. ;U
I feel like if it wouldn't matter if I were an anime fan, it would still be the same outcome.

Do or do not, there is no try. -Yoda, I believe in you!! Be happy laugh and love and live.

I can't speak from experience either since I'm not and haven't been depressed but from what I read it seems like a decent number of anime fans use anime as a way to escape from reality and their difficult lives. As opposed to someone who isn't depressed and likes to go out and hangout with friends. I guess its like a domino effect since those who are depressed tend to stay indoors on the internet more, where all the anime is, as opposed to being happy and going out where there isn't internet. I don't play games at all much anymore, so I can't speak for them either, but I wouldn't be surprised if you see a similar trend in personalities with the hardcore gamers and difficult realities.

Anime helps with my depression, actually, it's a kind of escapism. My depression is inherent, nothing's ever going to "cure" it, even meds can't entirely rid me of it.

It's because you didn't believe in senpai! Believe in the senpai that believes in you! Feel better, get stronger, love, live, laugh.

Almost everyone in this world goes through a stage of depression, I think every person's trigger is unique, but its all similar in that the cause of depression is an emotional conflict. I don't mean bullying or a friend being a jerk. I mean something unique to each of us triggered an emotional response that did not agree with our brain consciously or subconsciously, something that didn't really bother us, but trigger a chemical reaction in our body. Those that know why they are depressed have strong personal awareness and can over come depression easily. But the others that don't know why they are depressed takes time for your mind to see.

Basically I am saying each person's reasons for being depressed are unique to only that person. Knowing why you are depressed and replacing every emotion with another emotion is how you defeat yourself and win against yourself.

Best way to fight depression for those of you that are, is to know where you stand right now in every aspect of your life and accept it. Don't deny your life because you may not like where you are at. Force Optimism on yourself, trust me its hard! but it pays off, Learn how you think, how you react and how you affect others, strengthen your heart. God has a plan, He wants you where you are right now, to learn and grow stronger and wiser. Trust in Him, Faith goes a long way. He knows you, He knows how you feel, He knows your struggles, He gave those struggles to you to live and live for Him.

I don't know. Do you consider depression a illness?

Depression is an illness, but senpai believes in you! You will fight this illness with love, happiness, laughs, and sometimes medication if needed (please visit a doctor for prescription medication if needed senpai is not a medical doctor)

Also on a side note, regardless of activities, hobbies, careers, everyone has it, Video Gamers or Anime lovers have it just as much as a Motorcycle gang Leader, Politicians, Doctors, Artists, Musicians, Actors, Dancers, Contract Killers, Military, Banker, Lawyer, Dentist, Oil field worker, Blacksmith, Golfers, Professional Athletes, etc.

Don't look for Happiness, you will never find it. Instead let Happiness find you.

I don't know. I actually turned to anime years ago when I was in a rough patch, and it helped pull me out of depression. Not clinical depression by any means; more the death, breakup, sickness, and work drama sort of stuff.
