My vote for most depressed anime character of all time goes to Shinji Ikari.

it's not really rocket science...

marathoning a show = staying inactive for long periods = not getting endorphins for the brain. not getting vitamin d from being outside. = depression.

leading to laziness = not getting anything done = no purpose in life = depression.

not getting enough sleep = depression....

________

it's all about self-discipline, which most people lack... whether anime fan or not.

I think it's more like there are a lot of ppl who watch anime and also struggle with depression. Anime could be there way to cope.

Tru but gamers do the same thing. But instead, most are giant assholes and pissbabies.

Speaking from personal experience, the number of anime fans who are mightily depressed seem to be higher than those not into anime.

But yes depression is a very widespread thing, and it's not a group by group basis at all. Anyone can have it. Anyone.

But why are there so many depressed (as in suffering from depression, not literally just sad) anime fans?

lol i'm an anime fan and i haven't been depressed in years

I think it's because it's so easy to lose yourself in whatever Anime you're watching if you're going through rough times

I don't know. I actually turned to anime years ago when I was in a rough patch, and it helped pull me out of depression. Not clinical depression by any means; more the death, breakup, sickness, and work drama sort of stuff.

Senpai always believed you would make it through, the lonely road is not so lonely with senpai at your side!

Never thought of it that way. So the reason gamers act like assholes to everyone is because their brain is subconsciously making them feel like crap?

they're just frustrated (sexually and non-sexually), and impatient.

people who revolve their life around these hobbies are usually doing it to distract themselves from a bigger problem (which is depression). but it's like alcohol.. the more you do it... the more you become depressed.

it's a vicious cycle. they like to delude themselves into thinking their hobby is not the problem, it is the cure... and that other factors in life are causing their deranged emotional state. but if they would step outside, do some exercises, sleep on time and spend small amounts on these hobbies... they would realise the difference it can make to one's mental state.

Antidepressants have an unlisted side affect, activating a usually dormant gene predisposing you to watching anime.
