Now, this may seem like a strange question since we can all agree that anime characters are indeed humanoid. I feel however that this fact alone isn't sufficient for us to actually categorize them as humans. There are plenty of examples of superhuman abilities displayed by anime characters that aren't necessarily confined by any TV show genre. Like the ability to contort their faces beyond any reasonable length, the ability to survive a punch that can send a person flying meters back to a wall or even to jump three times their normal height. That's just scratching the surface of the abilities that many anime characters share and what about their appearances? Can we say that most anime characters truly look like human? Their eyes are often a lot larger then ours, most of them can fit their fist easily into their mouths and their physique are at most times perfect. There are even endless discussion regarding whether anime characters look caucasian or not. Since when have we established that they looked human in the first place?
My question boils down to this, shouldn't we rather classify anime characters as super-humans or at least as humanoids?

This question would vary and depend on the series and genre. With Anime, I know you could draw them to see what they would look like in our world and vice versa for us. I know for the slice of life and romance/shoujo genre they would look as human as possible.

They are animated comic characters and their level of humanity is defined by their creators.

Good point. Right now i can't think of any anime where the characters have completely normal (By human standards) physical and mental abilities.

Their level of humanity is determined by their creator(s). Human? No. Human-like? Yes. Caucasian? Maybe although most are supposed to be Asian or of Asian Descent. Abilities we regular humans don't have? Yes. Bodies most of us don't have? Yes. Like I said before their level of humanity is determined by their creator(s) but I think they can never truly be human because we a lot of times never see them go through the normal everyday challenges we go through. Reason why is at the end of the episode they succeed or things go in their favor when we know in real human life chances of things going in your favor is 50/50 not 100/0.

They are simply representations of humans, like any other character from fiction.

The ones who go to high school are intended to be human, except for Lum from Urusei Yatsura, who is an alien, and Ataru Moroboshi, who can superhumanly survive anything.

Ford Prefect did it better.

That won't really work, though. Not all anime characters are even supposed to be taken as human. The beast men in Gurren Lagann, the fish people in One Piece, whatever Kyuubey's supposed to be...

Not to mention the abundant mascot characters that are not even humanoid.
