Yes, I am aware that there are several threads on censorship in anime however, these ask about censorship in rather general terms or why does anime sometimes get censored (gotta increase those BD sales somehow). The question here is about the how censored anime impacts how watchable the show is.

With censorship in western simcast anime seemingly becoming more of a thing, I am interested in the effect that censorship has on the ability of viewers to continue watching a series. Does censorship cause you to drop shows like a rock or are you able to grit your teeth and bear it?

For me personally, censorship is a great way to kill off any interest I may have had in a show although I can ignore it if it’s a one off.

I feel that this is an issue that could become more important if we see shows increasingly broadcast in a censored format. For example, the whole point of an ecchi anime is for titillation and mindless fan-service (we all know you aren't going to watch Bikini Warriors for the plot). However, apply those black and white bars and what do you have left? A show whose central purpose of existence is now gone. Of course, this is not limited to ecchi as action and horror shows can also be censored see Tokyo Ghoul or Terraformers and scream in horror, the horror of not being able to see anything.

As a slight side note I not bashing CR, you guys are (mostly) cool.

If after all that you are still annoyed at being asked such as useless question here is a cool picture of Sabre.

Who is doing the censoring? Is CR responsible for it or is it the creators? It's a genuine question, I don't know.

Not CR. TV stations in Japan usually, and sometimes the creators do as well as a gimmick to sell the uncensored blu-rays.

Censorship is awful and can sometimes ruin a show. If I watch a horror show and all the horror is censored then it's not going to be scary at all and can be very confusing. An example of an anime that had this problem was tokyo ghoul.

Censoring can help force people to buy the BD. But I do hate it.

well right now they're censoring fairy tail which I'm okay with but it's weird a bit since they censored some characters being naked but left others alone.

Like has been pointed out, the source content is censored before it gets to the foreign streaming sites. The only channel that shows uncensored anime in Japan is ATX (their version of HBO). And, ATX pays for the exclusive rights to the uncensored content. This is part of how they sell discs in Japan (want the uncensored version, buy the discs). After the ATX exclusive period ends, sometimes the streaming sites get an uncensored version.

I will also add that the censorship and enjoyment can affect the enjoyment of a show (positively or negatively. Creative censorship can actually add to the enjoyment of a show. I remember the first time I watched Samurai Girls I found the splattered ink used as censorship creative and fitting with the art style. There are various other versions I've seen that I have found amusing. But, there have also been instances where the censorship absolutely ruined an anime for me. An example of this is So I Can't Play H. There were times that nothing could be seen in a scene because of the lazy way they did the censorship.

Censorship is the Bane of my existence. lmao seriously there are very few shows that I can even bother with if it has censorship, like if you gunna have titties flop out, don't fricken shine blindingly bright lights across them, if a dudes gunna get stabbed, let us see a dude get stabbed, dont put the black abyss in front of it. SO ANNOYING jeez
