I guess you have never heard of desalination plants before? Just because Cali doesn't have many does not mean its not possible.

I have. But that's not the answer to our drought. We shouldn't need more of these. But also do you know another problem with making and using more of the desalination plants though?

Not to mention having more of these plants will just ruin more of our environment, creating even more problems.
We will also kill more sea life from it (we seem to be having a shortage of fish too). We are already using the ocean as a giant dumpster. :/

regular everyday people kinda sorta have nothing to do with This. yeah driving a car causes pollution but if the government really wanted to they could giver everyone electric cars. The reason why "The man" isn't pushing for us to stop being dependent on fossil fuels is because of the amount of money they have invested in it. There are dependent on their fossil fuels and nothing else. I'm paraphrasing but the moment we say bye to fossil fuels is the moment we through a whole nation's government into poverty

The best part of the drought is all the Californian's trying to shut down farming in that state. Which would failure cascade their economy so hard.

JUST DO IT ALREADY CALIFORNIA!

I actually made a petition concerning this. It's doing pretty well so far, with >200 signatures as of now. If you want to sign it and/or share it around, I'd really appreciate that.

Maybe it'll do nothing, but it's sure better than just sitting around!

Actually, this could do more harm than good in two ways:

1) If we assume your premise is correct, a weak attempt will simply desensitize and/or frustrate others, so that they are less responsive in the future.

2) If we assume your premise is faulty, then you rob people of their freedom (directly) and potentially of their lives/well being (indirectly) as you pass unneeded laws and restrictions to protect something that didn't need protecting.

Neither of these are exclusive and I suspect that both apply.

We should be worried as eco-systems rely on a mixture of animals and fauna to work correctly, if a link breaks too quickly it collapses. That's why in the UK construction projects are held up if a crested newt population is found. As apex predators we have no enemies and can kill what we like though we may not need these animals directly to survive, without them other species of animal or plant that we require will die off.

Anyway, in the history of this planet no species population has kept on growing, they reach a peak and die off or become extinct, we are no exception to this rule. There's a finite amount of resources out there and our arrogance as a race won't be enough to support us when 'technology' can no longer feed us.

A surprisingly high percentage of the population won't even believe this. Then, there are people who just say it's natural selection and do f*** all to help, as though a mass extinction is a good thing.

IMO, humans have so much power as a species and know exactly how to maintain a comfortable balance so they might as well enjoy the benefit of having a comfortable world nearly indefinitely by taking the necessary steps to preserve the environment. It would be stupid not to take advantage of this awareness and power and to bring ourselves down in the future.
