Post Reply Stream buffers slower than show plays

For the last week I've noticed my crunchyroll quality dropping. Both at 720p and 1080p at some random point the stream will stop buffering. It might take 30 seconds or 5 minutes before it starts again, at which point it might only play 1-2 seconds of video before pausing again for a long time.

I see no other complaints on this forum right now about a mass issue, so i'm wondering if a CDN has some restriction to streaming to me, in Australia.

Here's a ping to google to confirm my own internet quality

Ping statistics for 216.58.220.142:
Packets: Sent = 26871, Received = 26869, Lost = 2 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 22ms, Maximum = 1042ms, Average = 25ms

A speedtest of my connection (My connection is a 100mbit D / 2mbit UP)

Anyway as observed my internet is running well. I have the best residential grade internet that isn't NBN here (though we severely get wrecked by the lack of upload which does annoy me, but more about that in another thread if i want to complain).

Some example cases where the streaming just paused and then failed to properly start again: Watching Baby Steps, i can get sometimes 10-15 minutes, or maybe just 1 minute of playback and then it will stop, if i don't touch anything it can be any time between 5 seconds and 5 minutes before it restarts, but when it restarts it might only buffer as much as 2-3 seconds and then pause again for that random amount of time.

For a while I was pausing (hoping it would buffer in the background) and then come back after making tea. However when i press play sometimes it might not even play, and if it does it may only be 2-3 seconds again.

Sometimes after a pause I refresh the page, click on the time line for the right point and wait. It may never start to buffer during the intermittent times.

Sometimes I can play and it will play a whole episode without a pause.

I have tried both 1080p and 720p and both have the same behavior.

Another anime it was happening to was Ixion saga and I don't understand what my husband is saying. The later of which is sadly ironic because it only lasts a few minutes and a pause can last longer than the whole anime.

Anyhow, I'm using Telstra Bigpond Cable within Australia. There has been no reports on www.whirlpool.net.au about telstra prioritizing data (though if it comes in at america, it might come in here too and I bet Telstra would be the first to take advantage by charging both the customer and the provider).

I'll try to keep this thread open but if i forgot to look sorry, I want to help more if i can but I'm pretty bad with forums these days.

I have the same problem and I'm in US.

I've taken to closing CR and reopening it, then clicking on my selection's description box. It then goes forward from the place it froze. As an interim fix, it isn't bad, if a little clumsy.

I too am a victim of this occasional buffering where said buffering is a bit slower than the show can play. It is quite troublesome and annoying but I just tend to deal with it as best I can..

It's a bit frustrating but I should be studying anyway. My final exam is on thursday and i took time off work to study for it. But i was enjoying a 30 minute break every two hours for some anime to relax the mind.

At least crunchyroll does have good features for tracking where you're up to in a show, and generally it's updated quick enough to be close to where it paused like purryfur says.

Did your issue ever get resolved? I have been having similar issue for a couple weeks now and I have made it my goal to eliminate everything that could be related to my IPS or my devices before seeking out help from Crunchyroll. I won't go into too many details but this is my current setup that I use for watching stuff on Crunchyroll:
Operating System (OS): Mac OS X Yosemite 10.10.3
Web Browser : Safari 8.0.6
Version of Flash you are using: I have already updated to the latest version of flash.
Processor Type: 2.9 GHz Intel Core i5
Graphics Card Type: NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 1024 MB
Amount of RAM: 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Here is a link to my current internet connection speed. I have Charter Internet Service-http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/4465082821

I also have a Airport Extreme wifi router that I have been using for the last year and I called over the phone support for apple and could not find any issues with my router.

I also made a trip to my local Apple Store to have my Mac looked at to see if it was related to my device or the connection speed. The Genius I worked with could not find anything wrong with my Mac and we even loaded up Crunchyroll on their wifi connection and ran across the same issue, however it was not as bad as it gets at home. The Genius opted against any major system restore on my Mac because he felt it would be unnecessary and to talk to my ISP about the issue.

I contacted my ISP to see if there was any issues related to my connection speed or if there was any issues with service in my area. Both over the phone support and two technician who came to my house over the course of two weeks were able to determine that it was not related to my connection speed or the modem they provided for me. They directed me at this point to talk to the service (i.e Crunchyroll) and see what the issue could be.

At this point, I am at a loss for what to do next as I have rarely had an issue with similar services such as Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Hulu Plus. I've read over forum threads with this issue and it seems like I could either be a vocal minority or I could be the other half of the people on this site who have this issue.

The more aggravating thing is that this is also occurring on my PS3 as well and I have go through basically the same channels, along with doing my own troubleshooting for the system as well and still have had no luck.

I've been suffering from the absolute worst buffering for past few weeks, I can leave it paused for over half an hour and get 1 minute in before it buffers again, or often the video player breaks instead.

Adding here that I also have this issue. CR should have a better buffering system, especially for those of us outside the US. I want to support legit sites like this, but not when it's so frustrating to watch a show. Email support was useless, telling me I should change my DNS just so I could watch a show. I wouldn't complain if I was watching for free, but paying for rubbish buffering isn't fun.
