I read through the thread to see who would notice that the story was from Australia.

First to mention it, first to gloat about mentioning it as proof they read about the story. Don't get it mixed up.

I agree^..why would you assume we didn't read it and that we didn't know it took place in Australia, does it matter where it happened!?? It's fucked up, in general.

We shall now refer to the mother as "Supercunt".

What about stuck-up bitch who needs to be put in her place?

When can we actually coexist in this world?

What does it matter if it happened in Australia or not? It's still racism towards a little girl who didn't deserve to have that happen to her. Not that anyone does of course. I read the article myself before posting on this thread, and that story could have easily happened somewhere here in America.

First thing that came across my mind-

Ban all non-Japanese cosplayers of Japanese characters

Basically that's where the logic train goes to

Meh, it's kinda sad to say this; but I am so used to hearing bigoted crap from people's kids, it hardly even registers anymore.

I was camping with my family a few weeks ago, and there was another family camped in a site just up a hill from us. Their dog was barking, and the dad yelled at the little boy (who was about 7 or 8) "What is that dog barking at?" And the kids response was "Just those wetbacks over there."

Um, yes? Because British-descended countries tend to use "Black" as a term for all East Indians, Caribbeans, Australian Aborigines, and yes, the occasional African.
Whereas we save the term just for African-Americans, which brings up the terrible image of slavery-racism, rather than the British's image of civilized-colonial-vs-subjugated-native racism.

Which, although nasty, still unfortunately puts the Obama memes somewhat off the point.

Well, to best portray a character, you should strive to look as much as possible like that character.

But it's just fun and games in the end so there's no harm in doing an inaccurate or even a bad cosplay.

I don't think it's right, what happen to the kid but truth is cosplays do sometimes pick a cosplay because the character already resemble themselves, I know I make my decisions about cosplay based on that all the time. For example I would never cosplay a big black guy or a sailor scout because i just can't pull it off.

Oh, Australia. Why does every personal interest story out of you sound exactly like it's out of Kansas?

I hear it's common practice to have unlicensed teachers teach the bible as history in New Zealand public schools. The world is really messed up, I don't know how this lady possibly felt comfortable saying these things to a strange toddler, other than Australia is the midwest of the Western world.
