Lots of times my friends and I will see two very close friends hugging or something and everybody will jokingly say "I ship it." Everyone then bursts into laughter, imagining the absurdity of that ship. But lots of times, when somebody says they like someone else in the friend group, they'll still say "I ship it"; and they'll mean it. I've always been very uncomfortable with this, because it kind of feels like we're pushing them together. Basically, it feels like meddling. But my friends don't seem to get it. What do you guys think? Is this completely innocent and fine? Or is it intruding and creepy? Or is it a little bit of both?

Honestly, I would say it's rather harmless. You may say that said pair would be good together when you say that but unless said pair feel that way ultimately there's nothing wrong with saying it.

I think it's fine to say it. Typically, it's just teasing. Even if it isn't, the intention doesn't carry much as weight as the actual actions surrounding it.

So, if someone not only says "I ship it," but also pressures the two about dating or drawing a-little-more-than-platonic fanart about them AND showing them said art, that goes a little over the normal playfulness of the phrase.

Also, if the people involved are fine with it, it's harmless enough. You've already seemed to have brought it up in the group and they didn't seem to feel bothered by it (I think?).

Nothing wrong with saying that. Kids these days say much worse so getting "butthurt" over something that amounts to nothing more than teasing or honest opinion is just silly.

If friends in a tight group haven't shipped already usually there is reason but I have seen a lot of that working in any job with lots of men and women side by side like restaurant we would play that game when business was slow. Pairing different couple ship- no ship

I don't think people are THAT prone to peer pressure.

Yeah, I'm not into matchmaking.
People should discover one another through their own efforts.

It's just a joke - Why should this make you feel weird?

It's harmless. Sort of like parents or other family members talking about you marrying someone or being someone's boyfriend/girlfriend.

I prefer planes over ships, much faster and less risk of pirates.

I secretly ship friends, don't ever let them know I do though Its just fun to have imaginary couples irl, I never try to really push them together.

Yeah, it's just like saying "they'd make a cute couple". Harmless.
