Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it. You can't erase history. Some may associate the Northern Virginia Battle Flag with racism, but of course, think of all the atrocities performed in the name of the U.S. flag. Banning a symbol is ridiculous ignorance.

This song has the Japanese rising sun flag in it.
The one from world war two.
It's probably more offensive than the confederate flag, but I doubt most people care about it.

It's self-aware parody. I think.

(And anyone who tries banning Miku will see REAL war...)

And besides, Meiko did it better.

Banning the Confederate flag is just everyone being way oversensitive. It's a symbol people have died for, it seems wrong to just throw that away.

A symbol people died for because Lincoln hurt their feelings and they weren't ready to give black people proper human rights. Yup, sound about right. Such a waste we have to get rid of it.

Well, actually, it started over taxation rights, as South Carolina (oh yeah, it's always South Carolina, ain't it, way back to when they wanted to scuttle the Declaration of Independence because Thomas Jefferson hurt their feelings about slavery) objected to a federal tax on property, which meant that slave states would be taxed more than free states because slaves were "property", and therefore taxable goods.
They naturally went into Persecution mode and said "Admit it, this is all just beating the whole Slavery issue again, isn't it?", and took their borders and stomped home to sulk fantasies about how the rest of the country was against them.

So, basically, no surprise--The Civil War was started over reactionary red-states who threw big angry tantrums, and got together thinking they had a "movement", because they were afraid of minorities and didn't want to pay taxes on anything. Good thing we've changed over these many years.

And since it was already said about two or three pages back, it's worth repeating:
NOBODY'S "BANNING" ANYTHING. Apple is not the US government.

...Yet.

I think it's funny.

In Apple's case it is a bit of an over reaction but the article in the first thread points that out, This is no surprise.

How burned some people feel about it is also pretty comical to me.

This is Apple placating their target market and that is all it is. If you think there's a Government conspiracy, you are really being silly.
Like Apple gives a fuck about the government, anywhere?

Yes apple will allways be an apple, But what I would point out how media is getting oversensitive about content and if we start to ban things it most likely spread and sometimes it becomes so major support it effects the goverment as well in sexual, racial, and other content.
And that more and more https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vJ2wGmsdHBs 14:35 where he talks about it (why we getting less freedom in fictional content and sometimes literal content)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HXsE-Zwb_j4 more about Fictional content.

Apple should stand for the consumers surely they don't care about what the goverment has to say even though sometimes it seems like they stand for nothing..

I guess, I made the topic a bit oversensitive... Sorry about that -_-

Welp, the vast majority of Apple users aren't very bright and buy into advertisement gimmicks, flashy lights, and proprietary hardware. So you can say they are also easily influenced by things. Maybe they are just being patriotic in stopping rebellion. Not saying they dont make a few quality products but the true power of that company is how they sell the product and protect their name.

And this pansy ass nonsense has been going on since the 80/90s its just getting worse and worse, and effects most parts of american society negatively imo.

1) Removing it from Gov't buildings & from State Flags, all for it; 2) Banning Civil War themed games because they include the Confederate flag is ridiculous! It's like the attempts to white wash away the old Dukes of Hazard series because it had a the Battle Flag of Northern VA / Confederate Naval Flag (what most modern Americans typically call the Confederate flag) on it's roof.

For the record, this was the original flag of the Confederate States of America during their short existence as a rebel nation:

Pretending things didn't happen in history is ridiculous.

It is just hilarious that people call banning a flag "censorship". To begin with, retailers are removing the Confederate flag from their stock as a business choice, which has nothing to do with a government ban. This is simple free enterprise. Removing historical content such as books, movies, and games is going too far. Removing the Confederate flag is removing a symbol of rebellion, and no patriot would ever even think of supporting that flag.

Apple is just catering to the mind set of what it perceives to be the "Majority" of it's patrons. It's called a marketing strategy. It's a business not a morality play or a governmental decree. In many individuals minds the Confederate flag is a symbol of overt racism and Apple doesn't want to be associated with it.No deep dark conspiracy just simple economics.

The games will come back. The sellers are making little decisions based on current trends, not giant sweeping policy decisions. They'll change their minds as soon as the public conversation changes. There's no morality or ideology fueling their choices.

What I don't like is that war re-enactors who, for the most part, are history nerds, are getting tarred with the same brush as bigots. This happens to WWII nerds all the time. Get a picture taken of you in a Nazi uniform, and you can't run for political office. It's like saying that a StarWars nerd who dresses as Vader at a con is going to actually start murdering people with his mind. Cray. History nerds need better press.

And I wish 'Murica would start really thinking historically. (I know, I'm cray-CRAY). The stupid "Confederate" flag was a symbol for the soldiers, who were often fighting because their local power structure told them they had to, or were fighting for their land, or for reasons they couldn't articulate because they were too uneducated and poor. Then the flag was a symbol for the poor white southerners during reconstruction, when the northern carpet-baggers ripped up the southern economy and trashed the place. This is why the General Lee has the flag. The Dukes are white trash fighting the sheriff for freedom. The flag was appropriated in the 60s for straight up racism, when it became a symbol for opposition to the civil rights movement, but it worked for southerners in general because it slipped right into that part of american racism that pits poor white against poor black. It's scapegoating. It uses race to divide the poor so they can't focus on their mutual economic self-interest. So there are defenders of the flag who claim "southern pride," but what I take that to mean is "people who want to evoke nostalgia for the righteous defense of the poor white south that got screwed by reconstruction, but do it by continuing to blame local blacks and northern whites instead of local white power structures." Then I feel sad and want to eat the rich.
