Yesterday a young woman ( a woman that I had known from childhood) was found dead in an alley in my city.

http://abc7.com/news/young-woman-found-shot-to-death-in-long-beach-alley/802797/

And lately there's been a rumor going around saying that "the chongos" (diss term for the mexican Longos gang) are trying to kill 150 people before the end of summer (there was an image about it somewhere, but i can't find it) but there have also been rumors saying that it was done by the asian gang members.

Honestly I don't care who did it, either way someone whom I spent a significant portion of my childhood with is now gone. Someone that had a bright future ahead of them. It's devastating to think something like this could have happened to her, but it also reminded me of the reality that it cold happen to anyone.

So to anyone in the Long beach/ L.A. County area please be careful. Don't walk alone at night, avoid alleyways, maybe even carry some protection. But most of all please, please, please, be aware of the people around you

It's pretty bad in Pedro too. Dudes getting a shotgun to the chest behind Tommy's every month or so.
I'm across the Vincent Thomas btw
Cops have been doing alot of raids as of late. Recently a dude I knew from highschool killed his wife and kid.

It's been pretty bad as of late, but they're not going to kill 150 people.

I'm really hoping it's just a rumor

There are lots of crimes going on here in LA.
I'm pretty close to that area. I probably need a body guard at this point even in broad daylight jfc.
Thanks for the warning tho

Edit:
I'm sorry you hear about your friend too. :/
If its not a rumor, I hope 150 people is at least an exaggeration.

I hope the 150 are "An Hero" and not random people.

Gangs are scum and should just die.

If I ran the Government gangs would no longer be
just gangs but labeled terrorist. I'd totally violate
your civil rights!!!

I am so sorry about your friend. I cannot even fathom the pain you must feel over losing someone you have known for so long. I truly hope comfort and peace come your way soon.

May your friend rest in peace.

I live in NYC and for us Halloween is a major gang intuition day. Its heart breaking to hear of stories like this but unfortunately its all to common. If only everyone would just pick up a manga or watch a anime maybe life would not suck so much, but im preaching to choir here lol.

I don't disagree with the idea of gangs, since they often give some hopeless people a sense of belonging, but when they organize to hurt innocent people, they belong at the bottom of the barrel and I don't care what misfortunes befall them afterward. They have been at the bottom and I'm sure they feel unfortunate and they know exactly what it's like, so why commit such crimes against people who have done no wrong?

Yeah, violent crime is not new in LA, though. I go clubbing there regularly and even I'm hesitant to walk around when it's dark. Those three or four blocks to the car are sometimes pretty scary. I've seen people get jumped out there before.

GTFO of here with that sh&% there is nothing to romanticize about gang life...
This isn't Hollywood this is real life people dying. Find something ELSE to fill
that "longing"...

Never met a gang banger that brought joy to those around them...
Drugs and abuse of family is the only things I've seen them bring
to others.

There are "noble" gangs out there. It's no romance. I used to hate all of them as well, until I thought about how most are just misguided people. It all depends on the mentality of the group as a whole. I'm not denying that most are bad, but there are a few good ones that I can't condemn.

Gangs give people a sense of belonging, but also cause rampant chaos, think about that. The problem with them is that often they eventually turn to committing crimes, even if they didn't start OUT that way. As the member count expands a gang is far more susceptible to having a sect go bad and start making the rest of the gang look like thugs. That's my problem with gangs. One bad egg. That's all it takes.

While not LA, the city I live in has the dubious distinction of being the murder capital of the US twice now. Lots of drugs, gangs, and random thuggery. It is best if everyone always tries to maintain awareness of their surroundings and anyone entering them. Even if a city had never had a murder before, that does not prevent a murder from happening there later. Read up on personal safety, maybe get some training, and be prepared. You can't rely on police for this sort of thing, unless they're right there as it happens all they can do is solve the crime and maybe help to capture the guilty for trial.
