Can't do that no matter what. Or even pretend.
So I said fuck it.
I'm not gonna pretend I like strawberry ice cream anymore.

Any intelligent person can make a comparison between two things. It's when you get caught up in trying to one up someone else and letting the things that other people possess affect your state of mind negatively, that is when this becomes a bad thing.

Not usually, I think all people need is to be fucked by the long dick of life a couple times and then they get the picture.

There's trying to fit in and there's wannabe.

Wannabe is going to far- TRYING to fit in is Okay.

Don't waste half your life looking at other people.
Get on with yours.

If you need to compare your material wealth with other people to appreciate what you have then it's time to reexamine the need for it in the first place.

I compare myself to others, not to feel better but to feel worse. I grew up to be a pessimistic person because my parents would do the same.

If people like being sheep or have low self esteem, then sure. Otherwise I see no point.

Just follow the heard. Don't try to be unique. You'd just be copying someone else while disturbing people.

Depends on how competitive they are. They don't need to, but for some people, that competitive drive makes it necessary to compare themselves to others to appreciate what they have.

Not everyone is like that though - it's perfectly possible to be satisfied with what you have by being satisfied with yourself. I'd say it depends on how much of an external vs internal person you are.

But that's just my opinion.

It's the leaders not the followers that make society what it is today.

Alexander Bell, Ben Franklin, Christopher Columbus, and Marco Polo were all treated like they were crazy for having their own opinions on the way the World works. They all persevered and became some of the most respected names in history because of it. Yet, in the history books, it's impossible to find the names of any of those specific people who shunned them. They all knew that the only opinions that really matter are their own.
