Can either be a wolf or a sheep.
Sheep are mindless and flock with the herd.
Wolves are independent and have their own ideals.

Or you can be a wolf in sheep's clothing and mess with the sheep lol

do people need to compare themselves with others in order to appreciate what they have?

It helps. Look at those poor bastards in Syria or Somalia. They'd kill to have the life most people in America have.

I think it's best to always walk your own path.

I have my own style and I am very much an introvert. I can't stand the sheep, and at the same time I never want to be a shepherd. I just do what makes me happy!

Following or splitting off on your own should change depending on the situation.

If you set off on your own when you are weak, you're toast. Sometimes, it is more practical to take advantage of the protection that the herd offers as you prepare yourself. It is also often best to not make a scene or stick out too much. Unwanted attention is rarely good.

Yes, I do think comparison is a natural and effective way of gauging one's situation. Without a point of reference, people won't know where they are.

Yes, definitely. You can only see the good in contrast to something worse.

If only I had a crowd to follow, I'm sure I'd be a lot happier.

ey, just like that quote from egg said- an original is worth more than a copy, so be yourself- everyone else is already taken.

In my opinion, its part of human nature to make comparisons. Some would take it as a challenge or competition, and try to better themselves 'til they're fully sated. Others, gives it a check, shrugs, and move on with their lives. What becomes a problem here are those that could never see what good they've got goin'. No matter how successful, no matter how accomplished they've become, they'll continue to eye anyone they believe who's better. And worse comes to worst, even go thru such lengths as to slander the person they envy. Not a pretty picture, but hey, its an occurring reality.
