Eh, not necessarily, there's a lot of yaoi ANIME, that I just can't get into. For example, the art style used in like the Junjou series and its sequels or counterparts is just too jarring and weird to me. I like reading BL manga better. BL manga gets more gritty, psychological, or even more cutesy than most BL anime does and that's why I like it. Also, the art is cuter. Like the stuff by Ogawa Chise or Takarai Rihito just gets me going in ways things like Junjou can't.

This of course doesn't apply in all cases but when it comes to BL or GL even, manga > anime.

Couldn't agree more! They rarely adapt the good stuff of GL/BL works, which makes me very sad. The only real yaoi adaption I loved was Ai no Kusabi because it was dark and actually tried to be dark, but also had a very elegant style to it. The setting was cool too! Doesn't hold a candle to the novels though.

But I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a Ten Count or Honto Yajuu adaption.

Oh my god, yes, Ten Count was gold. Hana no Mizu was really good too, I'd love to see them transfer it to an animated setting without messing it up.

No.6 is my favorite when it comes to yaoi anime.

I wish there were more like it.

Hello? Do you even have a clue..for one thing yaoi anime is far and FEW ..FEW. I'll say it again FEW. There is some poorly done animation that is shounen-ai,(Junjou Romantica for example) but again, yaoi is very very FEW...So even if the male dominated CR wanted to show yaoi...there is not much available to show. Too bad you're not looking for ecchi or hentai..there are TONS of those. And on CR..well the ecchi, which sometimes is not too far from hentai.

Hello, I just wanted to get the conversation started about the lack of Yaoi content represented on Crunchyroll. I would love to see more Yaoi in my que. But unfortunately there are only like one or two titles that I see that have any Yaoi at all. I'm not asking for Cruncyroll for the hardcore stuff... just some good old fashioned love stories or vanilla would suffice. How does everyone feel about the amount of Yaoi that is currently offered on Crunchroll compared to the other anime and manga that are offered? Would you like to see more? I certainly would. Is there a way we could get more Yaoi content on here? Thanks guys. Please post your thoughts and opinions! Peace and Love <3

If it aint hardcore it aint yaoi..it's shounen-ai. But since CR doesn't show hentai, it is unreasonable to ask them to show yaoi..in any case yaoi anime is few. Even shounen-ai is few. But I feel your pain.

A LOT of yaoi anime? Where might that be? I've been searching..some old shounen-ai titles..a few new ones but yaoi? No. Not a lot.

Ok, shounen ai, by your specifications. Most shounen ai adaptions are bad. More r-rated yaoi adaptions can be bad too. Like I'd be afraid of what they would do to say, Ogawa Chise's stuff if they adapted it into an anime. If you don't do psychological series adaptions right, they're crap, there's just no denying that.

I love how nobody mentions what a DISASTER Dramatical Murder was here, it's like we all want to forget that crappy adaption exists lol.

On a juxtaposition, most reverse harem adaptions are crap too, A lot that have creepy male protags just pussify them in animated form and make them out to be 100% woobie instead of psychologically evil, mean, gritty, and unforgiving, even if they're characterized that way in a game. It's like, they have to tone down some of the elements that make stuff with more psychological drive even virtually INTERESTING because they're scared tehy might scar someone or bother them, and i'm like, THAT'S THE POINT, it's SUPPOSED TO MAKE YOU THINK AND CREEP YOU OUT.

In a non yaoi or reverse harem example, even the DRRR anime isn't as psychologically pressing as the original novels, but it captures the darkness and grittiness the best it can all the same, without TONING it down too much, that's why I love it. Now if they could only do yaoi adaptions similarly then there wouldn't be so much problem.

Sometimes I wish that anime could be more outrageous and like american dramas-- television, that somehow in some cases manages to combine all these types of elements very well without being bad about it. At least, in the case of the good American drama shows I've seen. Or even like, UK based series.

Yes..yes..you are right and yes..yes..you are right to bring that up..Dramatical Murder..well that was a mess..very disappointing. And yes..you are right reverse harem adaptions ARE crap. Everything you say is right. But why is that? I'm old and gave up long ago..I had hopes..but over the years they have been dashed. Why are there are tons and tons of ecchi and hentai..and a handful of yaoi (ok I'll ditch the semantics)?

I've placated myself with manga...but then they had to go and add the "bar" or the "bubbles"..lord have mercy if I should see a.. ..well you know what I mean.

The amount of crappy ecchi series far outweigh the amount of good yaoi series because they meet male demand. Anime producers are trying to get mass demographics and they know a lot more guys watch anime, but it's unfortunate for the consumers of BL related media, or even GL media. You can find a thousand ecchi or nsfw titles but far less BL or GL titles that're even decent in anime form. But the manga market for these can be gold.

I write stories about psychologically damaged characters for fun, not always BL stuff, but by god, I don't understand why there aren't a ton of good, gritty anime and stuff, it's just like, for some reason, some people can't adapt it well or write it well, or they do and it gets scrutinized for being TOO DARK. But that's what I WANT. I HAVE TO FILL MY VOID WITH MY FANFICTION AND MY GIANT CROSSOVER NOVEL THINGS OTHERWISE, and THOSE ARE HARD TO WRITE.

Like I have this DRRR-ish one in the works right now and I'm seriously considering PMing it to someone who speaks Japanese and can translate it for Nartia Ryogho just so i can have it recognized. I take such pride in my bad AU type things. But it's like, I want JP anime to breach more boundaries, and if they WON'T, I WILL IN MY FICTION. And pretend it's canon.

Also, tbh, I don't understand why Oreimo gets accolades considering what an ANNOYING BITCH the main female character, and other stuff gets scrutinized? So wait, you can imply and include outright incestuous advances and get praised for it, but if a story mentions rape or the backstory of someone's tumultuous childhood, it's WRONG because it portrays things in an abusive, bad, or dark light, and oreimo puts incest in a good light? Wait. A. Minute. That's morally skewed as HELL.

Anything by Takarai Rihito honestly. As long as they captured the charm of her art, because it is beautiful. I'd kill for an Elektel Delusion anime too.

No. 6 isn't yaoi though. It's a work that features a homosexual relationship, but the main focus isn't their relationship, so it's not classed as BL. I adore the series though, the novels were beautifully written and the characters have a wonderful relationship. I would love more works like it. If you haven't already, totally recommend the novels because they explore Shion and Nezumi's relationship even more and it's better executed. Also you get to read No. 6: Beyond!

This is wrong. In Japan they do not use the classification of yaoi/shounen ai. Shounen ai has actually only been used in the west when it comes to referring to manga and anime. They only use the term BL to address all works featuring homosexual characters that are aimed at women. If it's an adult work they slap an 18+ rating on it. Shounen ai has a pedophilia weight to it and means you like younger boys and yaoi is just an outdated term they don't use anymore.
