One thing I don't understand is why Light seems to be...I dunno, not the evil genius I was expecting? I'm not sure if this is how he was originally in the manga (it's been years since I read it so forgive me if my perception is not accurate), or because he hasn't gone through character development yet. However, I do like L's character - a lot. He seems less sullen than he was in the manga, but I like the way he is portrayed and was given new quirks.

I dunno if I'll continue to watch this, since I felt the first episode was just "meh".

I haven't read the manga but he's pretty much a sociopath from the beginning of the anime. I don't know why they changed the character, but perhaps they were hoping to make him more easy to relate to by giving him something of a conscience. They've also turned Ryuk into more of a corrupting influence on Light in this version.

I read somewhere (but can't remember where) that Light is not supposed to be the brilliant genius he was in the anime/manga. This obviously raises the question of how is an average Light supposed to beat L, who is presumably still a genius?

I have to admit, the changes were originally much more grating for me in the first episode. But now four episodes in I can't wait to see what happens next. One thing that relieved me is that Light is still smart, despite the fact him wanting to live an average and uneventful life he desired before. The Death Note and L are pushing him to become more like the Light/Kira I know in the manga and anime.

I was surprised that Light wasn't quite as ambitious character as in the anime. In many ways, though, giving Light gradual development of his potential from being an average guy has given the drama a greater sense of humanity, twisted as it still is. I do constantly feel like Light is about to get caught since L's character is considerably more dynamic

Not sure how I feel about Misa, but I suppose we'll see if there is any change in her devotion to Kira in the next episode... Despite the differences between the drama and the anime, it still gets my brain juices going and wishing I was marathoning the drama rather than waiting week by week for new episodes.

After the first couple episodes gave the impression that this show would be doing it's own thing this seems to have more or less settled into a pretty straight adaption of the original. The characterizations of Light and L make the context of certain scenes feel a bit different but they're hitting all the major plot points with little variation. It's a bit disappointing since this initially felt like a fresh take, but I'm still enjoying it.

Whatever is going on with Near is still a bit of an unknown and could prove to be a good excuse to mix things up a bit, which would be nice seeing as the Near arc was kind of a let down. Spoilers for the original:

^^ Pretty much the same views. It seems to be following the original pretty closely, don't know what all the fuss is about the so called BIG changes. They're really small changes. Still enjoying the show too!

At first, I didn't love "Death Note," but after watching this version I really love L, also I love N, too. I don't really love the ending. This drama made me think so much about the way that Light did with the criminals. Even though Light think it's a best way to kill all the criminals, but it's really not the good way when get rid of the life from bad people. From the kind person, Light slowly changed to an evil person and his ambition became bigger and bigger when time pass by... Anyway, I really love L in this version.
