They USED to be. Not hardly as much these Days. Not to say I don't Own things One might identify as "Veblen goods", but when You'd examine My Life as a whole, those type of things would DEFINITELY be a Minority.

Clothes: no; unless people are looking straight at your nipple for that POLO logo, people usually don't notice. Of course, there are some exceptions, like job interviews. You always want to look your best, so spending a couple of extra dollars to impress is always better.

Technology: yes; Call me paranoid, but I have had several friends who gotten the cheaper phones and watches, only to have them break and crack after a year. I've had my Galaxy S5 since it came out in 2014, and it's still running like it was fresh out the box. I really think it's worth the extra dollars.

Food: yes; You should care what you're putting in your body. That great value microwavable pizza may be heaven now, but that crap really put a toll on your body in the long haul.

Hygiene Supplies : no; No-name brand underwear, shampoo/conditioner, lotion ,and soap work just as well as Fruit of the Loom, Dove, Aveeno , and Irish Spring.

That may be true for a lot of people but for me, it's only if the clothes are white haha. I don't take real good care of any of my clothes. I even just throw literally everything dirty into the washer and dryer. Work clothes are different. When I helped as a farm hand and worked outdoors at my last job my clothes were cheap because I knew they wouldn't stay clean. As for tears and stuff, they were bound to happen eventually, double stitched or not. And I don't think of the way my clothes are made. I just buy them.

If the item in question is something I need high quality/longevity from then yes, brand matters greatly to me. Certain companies simply are better than others.
