We can just turn them away thats what most civilized countries do. Sure I'm sure your part time job customer service job is safe lol. Jobs where you do manual labor are under threat jobs that used to pay a wage that a family could live on now pay enough for a bunch of third worlders to cram into a tiny apartment. I have no problem with some controlled legal immigration but this illegal bullshit needs to stop if left unchecked this country could begin to slowly and inexorably slid out of its first world status.

I agree they should become legal citizens but the system is flawed and it takes way too long for that to happen.

Either way, we aren't going to become a second world nation because of immigrants. We've had immigrants since before we were even a country, and we're still the most powerful nation there is.

Other countries who are more selective with their immigrants aren't too well off either though.

Heres the problem we have that didn't exist a hundred years ago. We give the illegals free stuff free healthcare food stamps drivers licenses the works. They have large families that use far more resources than they put back in to the system as in they don't pay taxes and they don't learn the language. If they reach critical mass severe budgetary problems will ensue. Not to mention how screwed alot of american workers are having to compete with poverty wages.

Have been steadily working in the trades since I was 15 thanks for showing your ignorance though.

You just gotta get better at your job if you're that afraid of them taking it.
Immigrants are practically never a threat to you whatsoever anyway.

Being part of a better off immigrant family, I won't be any threat to most of America. Everyone's looking for jobs that are way above what the average joe will ever see.

Immigration has soared since the Immigration and Naturalization Act of 1965 and it won't stop.
America has always had a large immigrant population (myself included) and will continue to have one.

The problem is most homeowners will take the lowest bid and this is always the illegal crews. There is a market for high quality work but it is slowly shrinking. I am already in the process of going back to college as the future in the trades for a white american is bleak.

You're just going to college now, and you're complaining of others taking over your job? You can't be serious. You should have taken that government loan to college back then, before jumping into the work force without a solid education. Unless you did, and just going back to upgrade, in which case that is how it's supposed to be. The highly literate people in the middle class are always upgrading to keep succeeding.

White Americans are immigrants just like these so-called "Mexican illegals". BTW, many of them have born and raised their children legally as American citizens. Those children are no different from those of your great grand parents that migrated from Europe (and to top it off, committed a genocide in the process).

I was raised in an environment in which education wasn't valued. I was kicked out at 18 and told to find work. I did pretty well for myself however I can see that the kind of work I am doing will not be enough for me to get ahead so I am going to college and paying for it out of pocket I might add no loans for me.

It's funny, as the US gets more Latino, my city is becoming less and less of it.

It used to be NYC was a city full of Spanish, Italian, Irish, Jewish immigrants. Now it's Asian, Eastern European, and African immigrants.

Where in NYC are you?

Immigration isn't the problem. The US is founded immigration. The problem is illegal, undocumented immigration. Many illegal immigrants avoid paying income taxes, as well as other forms of taxes, and then send a portion of the money they make back to families in other countries. Then, they are still benefiting from the use of the taxes.
Personally, I think we should open the gates and streamline the documentation process. Instead of a few family members working here, and sending all their money back home, the whole family could be here, spending that money in the states. More documentation means more people paying taxes. The harder we make it to get here and get documented, the more illegal immigration we're going to have.

Getting better would do little to help. The reason why immigrants are getting these jobs, such as construction/carpentry where I live, is because they will work for less. Why choose me if you could pay an illegal immigrant a very low wage and give him a job that really isn't that complicated? Because in this example, carpentry really is quite simple and if you have at least a person or two on the job who know what they're doing, they can tell an illegal immigrant what to do and they can do it just fine. I see it all the time where I live, especially since nobody really pays too much attention to to it.

More often than not people speak English. Even foreigners.

I think we let in to many foreigners to the US. The mexican illegals are laughing at us as they take our jobs and refuse to learn the language.

So what experience do you have that makes you believe these things?

I've worked in different trades before settling in my current occupation also and what he says is right. Getting better at your trade does set you apart and bring business.

Have you ever hired the cheapest guy you could find? I did that - once. After that I hired guys who knew what they were doing. They cost more, but you gut much better quality. This goes with outsourcing as well.

I'm now a web developer and i cant tell you how many people have come to me, because their cheaper company in XXX country screwed them over, didn't finish the job, added back doors to financial systems.

In my experience it's cost more to take the cheap route because you'll have to hire someone better to fix it. Trust me. I've hired and been hired to fix someone’s previous work. And if you keep trying to hire a cheap guy to fix a cheap guys work before, you gunna get stuck in an infinite loop of cheap-always-broken quality.
