More often than not people speak English. Even foreigners.

I think we let in to many foreigners to the US. The mexican illegals are laughing at us as they take our jobs and refuse to learn the language.

Don't worry, it will be a mute point within the next decade or two. By then, most jobs will be machine-automated, so people won't even have to work any more. Though as for them mocking us....I doubt that. People go through the danger of illegally immigrated here in the first place because the living conditions in the country they come from are so horrible they can barely stay alive. I am sure that those who do illegally immigrate here and do manage to find work are greatly appreciative of it, it must seem like a dream come true to many of them.

As long as this doesn't change things to the point where I have to learn Spanish than it's not an issue. The only thing I've noticed (at least in my area) is that I've seen quite a few jobs having bilingual Spanish as a requirement. Like I said it's not an issue, but I've had to pass on applying to several jobs because of this requirement. I can't see it getting to the point where most people speak Spanish and most jobs require it, but I could be wrong and I'd definitely take issue with that.

So what experience do you have that makes you believe these things?

I've worked in different trades before settling in my current occupation also and what he says is right. Getting better at your trade does set you apart and bring business.

Have you ever hired the cheapest guy you could find? I did that - once. After that I hired guys who knew what they were doing. They cost more, but you gut much better quality. This goes with outsourcing as well.

I'm now a web developer and i cant tell you how many people have come to me, because their cheaper company in XXX country screwed them over, didn't finish the job, added back doors to financial systems.

In my experience it's cost more to take the cheap route because you'll have to hire someone better to fix it. Trust me. I've hired and been hired to fix someone’s previous work. And if you keep trying to hire a cheap guy to fix a cheap guys work before, you gunna get stuck in an infinite loop of cheap-always-broken quality.

My parents and grandparents are carpenters and I often worked with my grandfather building houses. I've met a few in my time helping my grandfather.

But anyways the jobs illegal immigrants are taking are not jobs such as being a web developer. In my town, it's carpentry, which is a simple job and easy to learn even if there's a language barrier. If you can read some blueprints, can read measurements, and can use equipment such as a saw or a hammer, you can build a house. So as a person who simply works for someone building a house, there isn't much to set yourself apart. And this is the job that is often taken by immigrants since it requires little knowledge to do. I don't want to insult any carpenters here but lets be honest, your job isn't that complicated.

It's like trying to create a business cutting grass. Just being good at cutting grass will do nothing for you when I could pay someone 20 dollars to clean up my entire yard. Sure it might not look perfect, but perfection is often not what people are looking for when they hire someone cheap for these jobs.

The United States is not really an English speaking country - it has no official language, in fact. It just so happens that English is the most heavily spoken language in the US currently.

It might not be an officially English-speaking country, but English, like you said, is the most heavily spoken language due to the Europeans building up this country from scratch and making a country from nothing but the earth.

Even Europeans immigrants who came later (1900's) learned English first and foremost. Immigrants nowadays (excluding the majority of Latinos) also come knowing English or make it their top priority to learn/better their English.

English may not be the official language, but it is the language spoken by most. It is the language in which books/reading/signs is first and foremost printed. It is the language spoken in movies, TV, schools, business, restaurants and pretty much everywhere as the first language.

English should be the official language. It is what has shaped and molded this country. It should be the official tongue spoken and learned.

Several other languages were present within what is currently the US from the start. Some were here before English, and many were more popular in certain areas and solid lengths of time. Large portions of the modern US were held by Spain rather than England, after all, and much of it was French. Why should English be put above those? What about people who aren't immigrants or born to immigrants that don't speak English as a primary language, like Creole? Should they be forced to abandon their language and culture because you think they should?

In fact, Spanish was much more common throughout much of central-southern and western North America. French and Spanish were pretty common around the Gulf of Mexico, hence the creation of Creole. Irish was pretty prominent in the Northwest for quite some time with several newspapers even being printed exclusively in it.

And I hate to make this point, but America was settled before any Europeans came. What of the native peoples and languages spoken? Why choose English over Mohawk, Cherokee, Navajo, or any other language? Why English?

I believe we should have Spanish and very important language be taught in school for children to have to learn, not a choice. Once someone said, "A great mind is a terrible thing to waste". If people don't agree then they can sign a paper for their kids to be in an English-only class, until middle or high school they can make a choice to learn it. That's only how I feel. It's really funny and sad that you go to Sweden and Hong Kong in China and they speak better English then the majority of Americans. America needs to step up in their education! I'm tried of the tyrannical government teaching us what they want us to hear. Don't rewrite history, tell the truth!

We can just turn them away thats what most civilized countries do. Sure I'm sure your part time job customer service job is safe lol. Jobs where you do manual labor are under threat jobs that used to pay a wage that a family could live on now pay enough for a bunch of third worlders to cram into a tiny apartment. I have no problem with some controlled legal immigration but this illegal bullshit needs to stop if left unchecked this country could begin to slowly and inexorably slid out of its first world status.

I agree they should become legal citizens but the system is flawed and it takes way too long for that to happen.

Either way, we aren't going to become a second world nation because of immigrants. We've had immigrants since before we were even a country, and we're still the most powerful nation there is.

Other countries who are more selective with their immigrants aren't too well off either though.

Heres the problem we have that didn't exist a hundred years ago. We give the illegals free stuff free healthcare food stamps drivers licenses the works. They have large families that use far more resources than they put back in to the system as in they don't pay taxes and they don't learn the language. If they reach critical mass severe budgetary problems will ensue. Not to mention how screwed alot of american workers are having to compete with poverty wages.

Dude, you need to learn to write correct English before you complain about foreigners not speaking English.

What do you mean by official language? I keep seeing people saying that but it doesn't mean anything. The Bald Eagle is our official bird, but that doesn't mean that all birds have to be Bald Eagles. Do you want to force other people to speak English? Make dubbed anime illegal? No more going out to a sushi restaurant and ordering tamago, instead we have to go out for raw fish and order an omelet on rice. No more tacos or tandoori or pizza because those are all foreign words.

That's a sad xenophobic little world you want to live in. You're too scared to learn or grow so you want to force everyone to be like you.

I work at a biotech. In addition to English I hear Spanish, Hindi, Mandarin, and German everyday. And in a typical week I also hear French, Russian, Portuguese, Farsi and any number of other languages. Most of these people have PhDs or MDs and so they are way smarter than you or just about any of the other people complaining.

Why do you go to school and get educated instead of whining and complaining and trying to drag the rest of us down to your level. If the US becomes a third world country it will because of ignorance and jingoism and xenophobia and not immigrants.

-People complaining that immigrants are stealing American jobs. Hmm, I wonder why? It's not like most of them are doing equal or better quality results in the workplace, and for less pay to boot!

-People complaining about learning a language besides English. Guess what, the world is becoming more and more connected each day. In the business world, bilingual workers are in high demand these days so its better to learn and extra language or two sooner rather than later.

It almost seems like America is experiencing internal xenophobia, which is ironic because the United States of America is supposedly the most (or one of the most) ethnically diverse country in the world.

haha Yayy will take over the USA., jkjk but how can someone have the nerve to say immigrants steal jobs, are you freaking serious.. 99% of Mexicans work as busboys, construction workers or in landscaping .. while Americans go to college and become successful in any major they graduate in . They don't work with a low pay rate like the poor immigrants do ...

I can't be bothered to point out all of the failures to capitalize proper nouns and awkward grammar so I'll skip those.

"I think we let in to many foreigners to the US." Should be too not to.

"Heres the problem we have that didn't exist a hundred years ago." Should be Here's not heres.

"We give the illegals free stuff free healthcare food stamps drivers licenses the works. Missing 4 commas. And it's not true. It sounds like you're just repeating what you've been spoon fed on faux news and AM radio.

"They have large families that use far more resources than they put back in to the system as in they don't pay taxes and they don't learn the language." Run on sentence and false.

"If they reach critical mass severe budgetary problems will ensue. Not to mention how screwed alot of american workers are having to compete with poverty wages" Alot isn't a word.

"I am already in the process of going back to college as the future in the trades for a white american is bleak." Thank you for your racism.

"Disgusting how you disrespect the us like that. Why don't you go back to your own country if you can't get documents in your own language." Sorry nobody is disrespecting you. You're just a poor ignorant boy who doesn't know that it's US not us.

By your own admission you're an ignorant 22 year old with a poor education. On one hand you complain about illegal aliens taking your job and then you complain about them taking free stuff and not paying taxes. Well which is it, are they working on not? Your complaint is that they are working harder than you and doing whatever it takes to succeed as opposed to your family that tossed you out on you out on your uneducated ass one wen you turned 18. If you have issues it's with them and not with the foreigners who have come to this country and are outworking you and your family.

Just as long as they learn English and speak it as their main language. Too many times Latino kids/families are better at Spanish than English, and never bother to grasp English. I am 110% against only Spanish-speaking schools in the USA as well. Fuck that!

You come here, you learn the language. Speak a hundred languages, I don't care. But English will be the main one in this English speaking, and English-language based country.

Don't want to learn to language? Don't fucking come here.

Just IMAGINE if people immigrating to Germany or France or Russia or Japan or Hong Kong or the UK for example refused or didn't bother to learn the language of that country. Holy fuck. The UK is already having this problem in spades!

Back to America...This is a massive sore point with me especially, as an immigrant myself to the USA. I cannot stand when people don't make an effort to learn the ENGLISH LANGUAGE. You don't even have to speak it perfectly or anything, just as long as you know it and make sure to use it instead of insisting that the language be changed. Fuck you!

You don't get any other immigrant to America having their original language spoken in schools catered to them, or only not wanting to learn to speak English or insisting on speaking mainly Spanish everywhere at the rate the Latinos do.

This is yet another reason why so many look down on Latinos - you're making it harder for yourselves! Learn the language, work hard, improve yourselves - majority of you have been here far, far longer than Asian, Middle Eastern or Indian immigrants yet this triple star group has beaten you in every single category and continue to do so!

People would hate ya'll so much less if you really strive and MAKE AN EFFORT.

This is AMERICA. This is no Mexico, this is not any country in South America. This is the multi-cultural U.S of A and we SPEAK ENGLISH HERE.

However, America isn't alone in this. There are many, many, many - in fact, pretty much the entirety of Europe going through this problem and MUCH more. This is a difficult time for many, and I know Europe is having it the worst of all.

All I can say is...no matter what country you emigrate to - LEARN THE FUCKING LANGUAGE OR DO NOT GO AT ALL.

I didn't know that Bristol Palin had a Crunchyroll account. Ooo red and caps that must mean that you're right. Just admit that you're afraid that they are saying mean things about the way that you dress when people speak other languages around you. FYI, my daughters, who do speak languages in addition to English, like to mock people like you.

I don't think I ever said or assumed I know everything about carpentry? And yea I'm not a carpenter but if you think you need any more knowledge besides what I said in my previous post to carry out the orders of someone who does know what they're doing, you're being ridiculous.

And if you're going to correct others grammar/spelling mistakes instead of posting about the OP, go read through your post and correct the errors there.
