I personally, have seen some great Anime Movies that were stand-alone.

I have also seen a few good Anime Movies that were great "additional content" story additions to an anime series.

However, I have yet to see a Movie Adaptation of Existing Series Episodes which I felt did much more than just re-hash an Arc in the series. I've only watched a couple dozen, so I'm by no means an expert.

If you have watched a Series Based Movie that you really liked or Really Hated, post some info about it please.

The Gurren Lagann movies were really good, and sometimes I like to see my favorite anime series in movie quality.

The Berserk movies were pretty damn good.

The CGI wasn't the greatest in the first movie (got better in the second and third) but it was really good overall; they actually added the Skull knight which was awesome and dont get me started on how goddamn epic the eclipse scene was.

The evangelion rebuilds (while they dont necessarily live up the original in terms of depth) were bloody amazing in both animation and action. I know the rebuilds get alot of hate because it made the "evangelion seekret club" more open to the "mainstream audience" (even though eva was pretty damn mainstream anyway) from long time fans. However they were fantastic watches. I was a fan of the original series when it came out (Watched it when I was still a lil kid) and the rebuilds allowed me to experience it again with updated animations and even made my little sister a fan of the series.

When a series gets a Live Action Film it bothers me (you just cant pull of anime hair in real life). But seriously thought, usually live actions take a complete turn, have little to do with the original series, and are just plan dumb. For example Avatar the Last Airbender (yes I know Avatar isn't technically an anime). They didn't even pronounce the names right!

ive only seen a few movies that are also anime series and generally there pretty decent from the few i saw but the anime series or them were abit butter since they had more of a time to use instead of pushing everything into a 1-3hr run

Haruhi Suzumiya no Shoushitsu was amazing. That is all.

-but the best anime film is definitely Kizumonogatari, hands down. I've never watched a movie that brought the source series together as well as it did. SHAFT certainly did not disappoint!

They're cool most of the time. Sometimes they're unnecessary but meh.

The movies often skip out on alot of very important stuff so i prefer the series but there isnt anything wrong with the movies either.

I'm not a fan of watching these types of movies as they tend to just summarize what's already been said in the series. That said, movies with a whole new plotline based on the series is more preferable.

I just watched the Madoka movies and liked them, didn't think I'd like the recaps but surprisingly I did. Refreshed my memory
