Yup , it's not working now . Get the cannot connect error . I have smarthub auto update disabled too . I think they owe us one working device to replace shutting ours off . I don't think we'll ever get an answer why . I think that stretched themselves too thin & can't keep up with the products . Why bother supporting the number 1 selling TV in the U.S. ?

Fairly certain there's at least one clause in the /ToS that protects CR from having to be held responsible when making a change in their service.

If you really want to make a claim, I'd suggest reading the Terms in detail, and consulting a lawyer to see if there's any precedence for this situation.

mod this is a serious question....why did the higher ups decided to stop supporting samsung TV app?

I can only speculate. The most likely reason is that the actual number of people using the smart TV apps didn't justify the relatively minor expense required for their continuing maintenance. This may or may not have been precipitated by some update to the streaming mechanism for all apps that either will be or already has begun to be implemented.

I expect someone will jump in at this point out and point out that millions of their brand of smart TV have been sold. The problem is that doesn't mean those features are actually being used, or that among those that do that a significant percentage go looking for apps other than the ones installed by default. (Note that smart TVs were not the only devices being dropped; so were Google TV and OUYA, two product lines that didn't sell well).

In the end, CR certainly knows far better than any user how much (or little) these apps were being used. Even if they were not getting reports of the number of apps downloads, they would know how many of a specific device were connecting to the service. (For anyone that doubts this, I suggest checking your My Devices page).

I think it may have to do with flash being way outdated on Samsung smart hub . there is no way to manually update it w/o an engineering degree ! I looked into the Samsung owner forums on this issue and the screensaver coming on . Bty , eyeofpain , tech support had the nerve to tell me to buy another device since they know their web browser is buggy & they don't know when they will fix it (if at all) ! They can't/won't fix their main device for streaming ?

@TheAncientOne

You are probably right, but all the same it is exceptionally crappy customer service from Crunchyroll's part in the way this has been handled. Someone reports they can't find it in the app store and basically gets told "oh yeah, Samsung is no longer supported and will stop working altogether soon" and the thread gets deleted. It should not have been the case that users came on here to look up a vague error message indicating a temporary fault only to find out the service has been ceased altogether with next to no comment from CR.

@SirGorilla

Samsung's support for the SmartHub is notoriously poor and I do wonder if it played some part in this. To give you an idea there was an issue with the audio output on the Netflix app a while back on selected models. They denied this for some time until eventually crippling the app completely for everyone (limited to stereo even if you select DD) and left it at that. Only those that complained to Samsung were given the explanation that although the app says it can do 5.1 it has been disabled within the TV firmware due to potential compatibility issues.

I don't see many options.

If I decide to buy new hardware, I want something that is also able to run Netflix.
This excludes Roku and Pi+Kodi.

So I still have as options an Apple TV or Chromecast.
However, I checked some threads here in Crunchyroll's forum, and it seems that the support in both these devices is also horrible.
Buffering, freezing, queues that don't work.
So I don't want to spend money in extra hardware to have a bad experience.

Well if you want to spend more money you could get a NUC and use that for kodi which streams CR well and a netflix plugin will work on ubuntu variants and windows in cooperation with chrome. This will not work on the pi (not intel). This is a bigger outlay of cash though than a pi or a chromecast. This is the forum for the netflix plugin http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=211574
You do not need the current generation of NUC either you can get a previous generation to save money.

Just realised that my subscription renewal was a couple of days ago, thanks for taking money for a service that you knew i would be unable to use. Thankfully I had a monthly subscription not yearly .

The Crunchyroll app for Samsung smart tv required you to have a premium account , is that also the case with the other devices?

Most devices seem to require a premium account as does kodi but I do not think the standard android app requires it, if you have something that can use that maybe not.

On your month why not contact support and ask for a refund?

Will Crunchyroll be providing partial refunds to people like myself who purchased yearly subscriptions intending to stream through the Samsung app?

CR has been moving more of the apps toward supporting free viewing with ads. At one point, all of the game consoles required premium, and over the past year they've been opening those up to free viewers. I know the Xbox 360 and PS3, PS4, and Vita apps now have ad-supported streams for free viewers:
http://www.crunchyroll.com/forumtopic-891037/xbox-360-for-free-members-android-hd
http://www.crunchyroll.com/forumtopic-873551/crunchyroll-app-on-ps3-ps4-and-ps-vita-now-available-for-free-users

The Xbox One app provided ad-support streams for free viewers from the start:
www.crunchyroll.com/forumtopic-875049/crunchyroll-now-on-xbox-one

This appears to leave the Wii U as the sole game console that is premium only. Another device that is still premium only is the Apple TV.

Devices that supported free users from the start include the Roku and Chromecast.

They certainly won't be doing it automatically, and even if they would do refunds, I doubt they would advertise that fact. If you want to discontinue your premium membership and request a pro-rated refund, you'll need to ask customer service directly (via the "Contact Us" form) and see what they say.
