where is it already. I've been waiting since the OVAs were out on VHS to see the whole thing animated and when the manga finally got scanlated that only made me MORE upset it didn't have a proper anime adaption at that time *flail*

Honestly both crunchy and funi are probably holding back releasing some of their simulcast titles til after their panels at anime expo.

So... GATE airs in 2 hours and the page still isn't up. Are y'all waiting to the literal last minute her or what?

The page was up when I checked it about 95 minutes prior to simulcast premiere time (about half an hour after you posted), and of course the first episode is available as I post this (and it appears it was posted on time).

No, it wasn't. From the announcement in the first message:

Due to some slight delays, we will be announcing the air date and times for both series at a later time,...

The listed day and time apply for future airings, not the first episode of the two series listed below that statement (which includes Wakaba*Girl and Ushio and Tora). The first episode airings are still TBD. Wooser's announcement has similar wording.

Even if you missed that statement, there should have been a tip-off in the fact that the announcement didn't state a specific start date, which is common to simulcast announcements.

Yeah, I watched it within the first minute after it came up, and I'm glad for that.

Announcements with broken links annoy me pretty much every time, however. This sort of thing happens with several announcements every season, and it unnecessarily complicates the process of adding new shows to the otherwise exemplary system CR has for tracking our watch queues. Even if the announcement itself can only be made at a certain time for contract reasons or whatever, I don't see why it can't be consistently set up so that the show page is functional if not within a few minutes of the announcement, at least within an hour or two afterwards.

It may be that CR doesn't even create the pages for shows until after they are announced, which would be a iron-clad prevention measure against them being posted too early, much less made publicly available (as happened with Funimation and Chaos Dragon).

Even if you create something offline, there is always a chance someone will slip up and either post it to early. It might be an overkill preventative measure, but you have to agree it would be foolproof for guarding against accidental early posting.

I'll grant that having the news slip out early for whatever reason is likely to have consequences sufficient that even draconian preventative measures are probably warranted. However, the level of standardization on each page leaves an impression in my mind that most of the generation process should be automatic once the necessary assets are in place.

Taking GATE itself as an example, the only element visible at http://www.crunchyroll.com/gate that couldn't have been generated in a few minutes with just the text and images posted in the simulcast announcement is the first episode itself. Even assuming that there is some ironclad rule that nothing at all is generated, much less posted, until the announcement has officially gone live, there is no visible reason why the process should take anything more than an hour or two at the most. With that in mind, the fact that these pages regularly wait hours or days to go live after being announced simply doesn't make sense to me. It would be one thing if some sort of incident occurred to occasionally prevent things from going as smoothly as they might, but delays of this sort happen regularly.

It feels to me like at the same time they're communicating a new series that they're excited to have gotten the rights to, at the same time they don't really care if anyone remembers about to watch it by the time the episodes are actually available online. It feels contradictory, and it's just about equally frustrating whether it's a show I've been waiting for and am eager to queue up, or something I've never heard of and am likely to forget about if I'm not reminded.

Just to be clear, the site as a whole is still running a wonderful operation. I've been a paid member for years and I've never had serious cause to consider cancellation. Episodes hardly ever fail to go up when promised, and even in those rare cases, I can't remember a time when some explanation was not provided. Consider just how huge their catalog is, that's pretty well amazing. The only reason I'm even taking the time to argue about this comparatively minor issue is this: I think they could easily handle it better.

For all the people getting excited about Gate being picked up:

It is being directed by the same person who did stuff like Love Life.
This, combined with the character designs, which look nothing like the ones in the manga makes me very afraid.
