Any Captian Harlock fans here? I just started it a few days ago, really digging the show.

He's cool, but the show's a bit silly/melodramatic in that good old Leiji Matsumoto way.
More of a Galaxy Express 999 fan, m'self.

I had bought the DVD box-set (from Discotek) and automatically love that series! And I thought Mayu's a cute kid

Yes! how can you not love a guy that has a eyepatch and a scar and pilots a spaceship on the top of it in the middle of battle?

Won't lie I enjoyed the recent movie more than the series BUT the version of the series I watched was the dub where they totally butchered it to try and make it more of a kids show.

I LOVE Captain Harlock (Or Albator as some of my friends would know him) I will take as much harlock stuff as I can get. Except Harlock saga of course. That one just sucked.

I've been aware of Captain Harlock for years, but only got to see one video released from
the old VHS tape days where they really blew the voice acting. There was also a video I
had rented that was a theatrical version of Galaxy Express 999 that had Harlock do a
guest appearance, and that was kind of screwy when the good Captain's American voice
actor decided to make him sound like John Wayne ("Wut yuh doin' there, kee-id?")

More recently, I purchased a DVD collection OAV with a newer story and was quite im-
pressed. It took a more supernatural direction with the antagonists by having them be a
race of extradimensional beings akin to a cross between Japanese ghosts and HP
Lovecraft's Cthulu. It was to be expected that the overall tone of the series was quite bit-
tersweet.

If Crunchyroll has the old series subbed, I just might put it on my watchlist.

If it is like the other old Toei series on CR, however, prepare for lo-res video and poor audio.

I just purchased the complete edition of the fantastic french dub of the original harlock series and it just made me want to remind all of you that if you like grand explorative space operas and you still haven't seen captain harlock in any iteration, then you are doing yourself a massive disservice. I know it's a new season of anime and you guys are likely already weighted down by all the new stuff, but if you have some free time and feel like this may interest you you should absolutely check it out.

I cosplayed Harlock at Dragoncon last year. Not many people knew who i was but those that did loved it. Harlock is one of the great anime characters inspiring dozens of copies of himself from Tuxedo Mask to Black Jack and even a spoof in Megas XLR.

The movie that came out a few years ago disappointed me mostly because the movie is called Harlock but he is a side character in it not the main one. They also left out much of what makes Harlock great.
