Hailing from wetsern USA. But depending on how far back we are talking I guess I started way back in the early Toonami days. I still have fond memories of running home after getting off the school bus to catch Toonami and ignoring my dad calling for me in the process. Then secretly stay up at night when it switched to a weekly format instead of daily. I drove my dad insane during those years.

However, I didn't know I was actually watching anime, or even knew what anime was, till I was about 11 or 12 years old. My love for anime started with Naruto though. I remember being excited for a new chapter and episode every week when I was younger. I don't watch the anime anymore since I think it's terrible now. But the manga will always have a special place.

My interest tappered off for a few years but over the last year I've grown a love for animation in general. So I started to watch anime again and have became re-addicted. Got a job, saved up for Crunchyroll and Funimation subs, went to my first con this year and spent over $500 (already got the time off work for next year), and got a couple figurines I'm saving up my cash for... that isn't going towards college of course. My interest defiently won't waver this time though.

From Bismarck,ND...
I moved to Seattle in 1980, I watched TV and saw anime for the first time. (Starblazers... Space Battleship Yamato)

There was NO anime in my home town . . . for most of my life there, we only had three TV stations and I think I was ten before I even heard of "Cable TV"....

Iam from Australia. I used to watch stuff like astro boy, robotech, speed racer and salior moon as a kid but i'd be lying if i said that they were my favourite "cartoons" at the time.
When i was 14 a friend introduced me to it as "anime" and Japanese and i think the first anime we watched was "Mermaid Forest" followed by "Urotsukidoji: The ledgend of the overfiend" and i've been hooked ever since.

EDIT:typo's

In the US, and i guess i'd have my friends to thank? Back in elementary school i would always go to my best friend's house and hang out with him and we would end up watching toonami (which i never told my parents about because i wasn't allowed to watch that kind of television when i was growing up) and I remember watching naruto and thinking that it was really cool because it was so much more actiony than the shows that i was allowed to watch. But other than naruto i didn't really get to watch anything else and didn't really try to until halfway through high school when one of my friends got to pick a movie for our friend group's movie night and it was one of the Evangelion Rebuilds and i hadn't seen an anime since elementary, and even though everyone else in the group kindof rolled their eyes at it (we only ended up watching half of it before watching something else) i was actually excited about it and i really enjoyed it and asked if i could borrow the video. He later ended up letting me borrow the whole box set of NGE and ever since then i've just explored the genre further and further. I've probably suggested him more shows at this point than he would ever care to watch, he's not too huge into anime, he just really loved NGE

From Sri Lanka.
First anime experience: Pokemon 2000 when I was 8.
First anime series: Naruto when I was 14.
I would say that afterwards, I was hooked.

I'm from Canada.
This was a long time ago so I'm not sure which was first, but some acquaintances of mine had some bootlegged fan dubs of Dragon Ball and Sailor Moon. Anime in general hadn't really hit the North American market yet so I was enthralled by this 'mysterious' new experience of a different culture.

I'm from Abaco Bahamas and when I was young all the awesome shows like Inuyasha, zoids, trigun, and igpx you know all the toonami shows used to come on. I was sitting on the couch by my cousin watching trigun thinking this is completely awesome. Trigun is still my favorite anime and that's how it all began.
