so far, my fave is FF Type-0 (PSP version). even though i dont know much of the story and had to ask on some key points, it is the most interesting and the darkest of ALL the main offline FF games to date! the main cannon ending is so messed up!

What I liked about 6 was how there is almost no constant main character w/o hurting the story,, and the versatility of customization lets you decide who you your main choices are. While terra was arguably the protagonist, she didn't ever hog the spotlight like other FF protagonists often do. FF 4 was memorable but in a more linear sense, FF6 more non-linear, with how it branches out early on and then later with multiple party formations. And there is no substitute for Kefka

there were 2 main characters (Terra and Celes), Terra was the Heroine of the first half of the game, Celes for the last half. i will admit the game did jump around a bit in the first half when the characters got separated (in that respect it is similar to FF13), but no, the 2 lead characters are female.

FFIX is my favorite. FFVII is nice and all but most of its popularity is due to the time in which it came out and less of the quality. Still top 3 though.

this will change when FF7 gets the much long deserved facelift for current gen consoles.

FFX for sure. They really took things to a new level with the capabilities of the PS2 and they nailed it. Voice acting aside, it was the best and most complete in the series.

Even thought people love to hate it, I thought FFXII was almost as good, if you turned off the gambit system and actually played it.

Whoever came up with the auto-combat battle tube that is FFXIII should be shot, if they haven't been already.

has anyone had a chance to play Type-0 yet? from what i hear, even though the ps4 version is good, it has issues w/ the camera blur effect, making some people nauseous.

Assuming it doesn't have the story reworked. Different directors...

ive heard there may be possible story changes, it is one thing to add stuff into it, additions are always good. it is another to rewrite it.

Final fantasy 9 hands down for me! It was such an amazing game! I loved the theme and the characters. Simply amazing. I wish they would remake 9 instead of 7 tbh

FF9 was definitely one of my faves, i actually imported it the summer before it came out here in the fall of the same year. at the time i thought kujah was female. i think it woulda made the story a TON more interesting, cuz ultimecia wasnt that great of a villain, you only found out at the end of FF8 who the real villain was. Kujah was there from practically the beginning. i did think the final boss being the crystal was kinda weak though.

for me its 7 just because it was the first one I had played, growing up i didnt have a SNES i grew up with sega so until the ps1 I had never even heard of final fantasy. All these years later I have played all of them and I love them all ( even the 13 trilogy) but 7 will always have that special place in my heart.

Final Fantasy 9 is to me the most complete Final Fantasy game that has ever been made.

-It's gorgeous

-has an impressive range of archtypes in characters

-the classic micro-management system at its absolute best being simple without sacrificing too much complexity and strategy.

-Absolutely fantastic story writing raising some mind-boggling questions about what it means to exist and other philosophical greats wrapped in classic fantasy combined with the classic Final Fantasy Hodgepodge of mythology from all over the world. Oh and I definitely don't wanna forget mentioning how well they pulled off the steampunk in this one. Usually it borders to obnoxious, but it was done just right for this game.

-Good love story

-Great villain, Kuja, although I'll never forget how I thought it was a chick at first haha.

-Arguably the most memorable cast of side-characters since Final Fantasy 7

-Challenging boss battles

but most importantly, it still holds up today in all of the categories I've already mentioned.

Amen to that. IX is my favourite as well. I adored all the characters and was sucked into the world. plus each character had their own demons to deal with and they all matured by the end of game. It was just so memorable.

FFIX is my favourite too. The main theme song which is simplified and played throughout the game sounds so good in the ending.

A close second for me is FFIV.

I haven't played FFV or FFVI.
