Series With Second Seasons That Were Better Than The First
Posted 7/8/15 , edited 7/8/15
Rare. This is soooo rare. The sophomore slump, the sequel curse. It happens a lot. Are there any anime that break this and have a second season or cour better than the first?

I'll say Love Live! the second season was way better than the first.

Toaru Kagaku no Railgun S was better than Toaru Kagaku no Railgun. That's the first that comes to my mind right now.

I love the original Sailor Moon, but the second (R) season of that show surpasses the first, IMO.

Lol, I was just coming in here to say Love Live and find it's already in the OP.

But yeah, the first season was cute but the second season is miles better and makes getting through the first season worth it. Unfortunately, that does make it a little difficult to recommend to those curious about the LL craze but aren't really into the Idol anime thing.

Hmmm...

...I'll go with Max and say SAO2 (though I'd guess for different reasons).

Haganai, for me. Though I liked both seasons.

Zero no Tsukaima: Futatsuki no Kishi was by far the best of the anime, in my view.

SAO 2 is better than the first season.

I prefer FMP: The Second Raid over the first season as I enjoy the plot/serious side of that series more than the comedy.

I'll also say Love Live's 2nd season is better than the first mainly cause it doesn't have to spend any time gathering the group together and can solely focus on characters together.

Nanoha A's is a far better season than the first Nanoha. Best in the whole Nanoha series IMO.

Romantic SNAFU's 2nd season was a lot more enjoyable. Not just better visuals, but better character development and more interesting stories.

That's all I can really think of that I consider straight up better 2nd Seasons.

From a recent example... Grisaia no Rakuen is better than the first season by FAR.

Agreed.

Yuru Yuri s2 was better than the first. I liked Nisekoi s2 better as well, as there wasn't any actual "plot" to go nowhere, so it was just mostly really funny without being frustrating. Is This a Zombie? had a better second season as it was just all really stupid nonsense that was hilarious to watch.
