That just looks like part of your toenail but it broke off. Just pull it out, they grow like that every now and then. Just get a good grip and pull it out. It doesn't hurt.

I can assure you my nails are anchored in the nailbed. I've pulled them out with pliers before and it hurts like a b**** and bleeds. They eventually regrew but still remained separate.

My feet and hands and nails are fine. The same doctor who examined my fingernails also examined the toenails. I'd always thought that it was a result of physical trauma or malnutrition or something, too.

Not a lot of people really pay attention to their nails. I thought if I had this, it would be at least semi-common.

Found a pic online. Mine is a bit larger and grows aligned with the main nail, though. The two nails seem to grow at different rates.

I'm almost disappointed, from the description I was expecting a full on extra toenail on the side of your toe haha.

I wish. I'd like to have an extra arm or something while I'm at it. Instead, I have a useless nail that I can't get rid of.

Have them as well. It's quite hard to get rid of.

I also read this on the Wiki page:

It is commonly perceived to be especially prevalent amongst Han Chinese

Which explains a lot.

"The accessory nail of the fifth toe is a physical trait of the small toe, where a minuscule 'sixth toenail' is present in the outer corner of the nail situated on the smallest toe. The trait can be observed on either one or both feet, where there is a separation of the toenail situated on the smallest toe. The separated part of the nail forms a smaller 'sixth toenail' on the corner of the larger, or 'main' section of the toenail, on the outermost side of the foot, which protrudes outwards from the corner of the larger nail. The additional "nail" can be cut with a nail clipper, just like any other nail."

Wow, I had no idea there was a terminology for it. Both of my partner's pinky toes look like there are two nails growing next to each other. When I first saw them and questioned her about it, she said it was because she played a lot of sports and fucked her toenails up. I just assumed her nails were split in half and just grew that way. Now I know it's not because of that.

Thanks for raising awareness of this. I learned something new today.

I've this on my right little toe. It used to catch on my socks, but with a bit more attentive nail maintenance, it's not a problem for me. I ran across a medical article describing treatment for this by ablating the nail matrix (the regenerative tissue that forms the nail), but unless it's somehow giving you major problems, it's probably best to just leave it be.

I don't think I have it, but my teacher had an extra pair of toes, but the universe needed balance and it took some of his fingers.

I've got that on one of my pinky toes. I pulled and clipped the extra nail off but I know it will eventually grow back since the stub at the nail bed can't be removed. It's about 2/3mm wide and grows to be 5mm long just like the regular toe nail then I do my best to clip it back to almost nothing. I've been doing this since childhood. Since I've got big flat feet I've always been careful about wearing shoes that fit. Mother started me on that habit when I was young.
