My sister would read manga on her computer, and I'd come in to her room and ask "why are you looking at black & white drawings when you can watch an animated episode instead?" I remember making fun of some of the manga she was reading too.

"A story about some chess with a ghost? How boring."
"Why is the big brother tiny? Why is the little brother a giant metal guard?"
"Her forehead is massive!"
"His dream is to make bread?"

Every now and then she'd talk to me about the stuff she was reading, and out of all the titles she was following, Eyeshield 21 caught my interest the most. So I started watching the anime for it but quickly dropped it to read the manga.

It's funny, some of those titles that I dissed back then are some of my favourites today.

After being an anime fan for 12 years (at the time) i finally got into reading Berserk after watching the anime 6 years previously.

Berserk basically made me fall in love with manga.

When I was 14 I went back to California (from Ireland- no one knew what manga was at the time) for the Summer to visit family and my cousin lent me a copy of Fruits Basket for a long car journey. I was weirdly reluctant to read it at first, the backwards way of reading confused me but once I started I realised I was obsessed by the end of the volume. I ended up buying an insane amount of manga and had to book and extra suitcase and weight for all that I was bringing back.
My parents were horrified.
I was overjoyed at finding a new passion.

Your childhood must have been godly. And your mother rules.

I only started looking at Manga like 3 years ago. I didn't read anything after getting out of school so I was like meh may as well. Plus I just love adding new books to the bookcase.

Had a friend who was obsessed with the Naruto series suggest it to me and i bought a few of the manga to try it out and it just kind of took off from there. Its weird thinking back to it and imagining actually struggling to figure out how to read manga properly at first when by now its practically instinct.

For me it happened shortly after my devorce back in 2010 I was on a animesite that had a mangasite and after watching Hajime No Ippo I wanted to read more of what happens and then read so many series during my time of depression but the ones that I liked and lost myself in the most were Rosario x Vampire, MxO, Kagami No Kuni No Harisugawa, and Psyren.

I always frequented bookstores and libraries, and I was watching anime from a young age, so it was inevitable.

I was just wondering how people here go into manga. As for me I was 14 and I found volume 1 of Shaman King in a Hastings store in New Mexico and have been hooked ever since.

Ninja High back when I was a teenager in the military.
