Social Security can't go bankrupt because bankruptcy isn't possible with the current system, it's here to stay and we should be expanding it. The welfare of citizens is more important than the bloated military's. Put the money into education, infrastructure, science, and healthcare. All of these are sensible places to spend on instead of the military. The military can go play with the current toys they already have.

Simply put, war is a waste of money.

SS was made for a time where banks have no money and people couldn't get loans or make money of interest. We don't need anymore health care funding, go buy private health insurance, or better yet, get a job that provides it, oh wait, "Affordable Health Care Act" jeopardizes health care given by a job, I almost lost my coverage because of it, and UPS got rid of their spousal health care because of it, not to make this personal. Most people on medicare are the people living in slums like englewood and compton; My 90 year old grandmother can't even get medicare coverage because of the unemployed gangbangers here who hog it. But that's alright, I've got my assessment of what you align with for using the word "welfare", calling the military's technology "toys", and saying war isn't profitable, which it unfortunately is, so I'm done trying to beat logic into you, if you want to live in your fantasy world where everyone loves us, where we have no enemies or potential enemies, where we can go back to using single-shot trapdoor guns, revolvers, horses, and age of sail ships, as well as having people that don't wanna kill us, that's fine with me.

That is completely useless in dogfights and long range fighting against even fighter jets from the 1970s.

No, you did not read that price tag incorrectly, it will cost $400 billion to build and $1 trillion to maintain the 2,443 planes that the Pentagon has ordered. They are history's most expensive weapon. And they are useless.

It can't turn or climb fast enough to hit an enemy plane during a dogfight or to dodge the enemy’s own gunfire. During test runs the F-35 lost to a F-16, a fighter from the '70s. Also, the helmet was too large for the space inside the canopy to adequately see behind the aircraft, allowing the F-16 to sneak up behind it. Essentially, if it enters a dogfight or any close range engagement, it's toast.

Oh but don't worry, the plane's manufacturer, Lockheed Martin, came out and said that the F-35 is meant for long range combat (even though it was originally proposed to be a dog fighter). That should justify its production right? NOPE because it's not even good at that either. The stealth fighter lacks the sensors, weapons and speed that allow a warplane to reliably detect and shoot down other modern planes in combat. It's good at detecting things on the ground from short distances, but it's a blind bird in the air. It also has VERY limited ammunition.

So the F-35 essentially can't fight other planes from any distance, is inferior to its Russian and Chinese counterparts, is supposed to replace many current jets, and costs $1 trillion. Seems legit.

It's great that arms manufacturers continue to lobby Congress to produce more weapons for the military so they can put more money into their bank account.

I just want to point out that we dont owe China anything thats a perfect lie to scare Americans that politicians like to use. And even if we did owe them a trillion or two it would be very easy for us to pay it back all we would have to do is go to the big banks such Chase and tell them give us 2 trillion of the more then 35 trillion dollars that you bastards hide and everything is good. We dont have a depth issue as much as we have a rich people and corporations dont like to pay what they should issue, but at the same time they want to live as kings while everyone else has to make up that so called deficit.

Ah yes, the typical conservative fear mongering and delusion which has lead the US down the path of glory and has skyrocketed its popularity in the world. This conversation is only going to end up as an ugly battle of ideologies so I'll end it now.

In regards to the testing:

However, the F-35 used https://ukdefencejournal.org.uk/no-the-f-35-was-not-beaten-by-an-f-16/ was a flight test aircraft with a restricted flight envelope and lacked some features present on the operational aircraft.

Unfortunately when you "hammer airplanes into plowshares" others start making ISIS's areas without gay marriage and other human rights like say, avoiding beheadings.

Right, because spending money on designing advanced jets has nothing to do with spending money on science and education.

I can only think that working on a jet like that would be a much more valuable learning experience than attending university.

The project is $1 trillion... not the jet itself. The project will produce 30 combat effective fighters. There hasn't been dogfights since WW2 pretty much. War today is based off fast surgical strikes and deployment. There's no need for a long range fight if you can deploy off an aircraft carrier or when we have destroyers with systems that can shoot a fly on the nose of some dude thousands of miles away.
