They haven't been on really good terms since WW2, but that was years ago and I don't know why they don't get along.

This is just one of the many reasons. Also, Japan has never really played well with other countries until relatively recently in history.
Prejudice also still exists within educational institutions of both countries, mainly the fact that they both like to tell their own pretty tailored side of the fence.

Continous straining events on both sides also occurs from time to time, take Senkaku islands or "Diaoyu islands" as the Chinese calls them, as an example. This is just one of the many things that continues to fuel the fire.
Then there's the sad fact that people simply refuse to move on. In spite of Japan having apologized for some of the tragedies troops committed during WWII, they are apologizing in vain because people even go as far as saying the apology never took place to begin with.

Think of it as a kindergarten dispute between two classes, and you pretty much get the picture, even though most japanese/chinese will tell you "how it really is"

Speaking of, do yourself a favor (and anyone else for that matter) and don't bring this up when talking to your Chinese or Japanese friends.
It's the equivalent of having an atheist and a deeply devout religious person clash.

lol you're the third person that said something like that, but I know, they haven't been on good terms. I knew about the islands and the situation about it when yahoo news covered it. Maybe along the way they might patch things up or maybe not. Who knows....

Yeah I don't really read posts beyond the first page when writing my own input.
It's a bad habit.

I think you're referring to the Bataan Death March. I don't blame you, Japan did a lot of stuff in both the Philippines and Thailand. But yeah, Japan did a lot of fucked up stuff in the war. A lot of Asian countries still don't forgive them for it, even today. Except for the Philippines. International relations between those two countries healed pretty fast, despite what happened to the Filipinos in the war.

Yes, it was the Bataan Death March - my mind doesn't function well at 4:00 am haha! I don't know...I have a Filipino friend, and she went back to the Philippines for a month for a visit and she said there's a lot of hate towards Japan there still...especially since they go into explicit detail about the war crimes in their schools.

And of course, there is a lot of loathing in all the other Asian countries. Japan has an unfortunate location.

Is that so? I've been to the Philippines a few times and I haven't really seen a lot of hostility or hate towards Japan. Maybe it's because of where I stayed. I don't know. I guess I'll find out next week since my brother has a habit of bragging he went to a Japanese college.

I don't know either, I'm just going with what my friend said, her family said and what I've heard other Filipinos say.

The younger generation might be more forgiving but other asian nationals watch out! We had a Vietnamese grower that refused to shake hands with the Hawaiian Japanese orchid growers. Now my Jamacian Chinese friend had an aunt who got to spend WWII in southern China. Seems the West Indian Chinese would ship the kids off to China to spend time with family in the old country. You know like summer camp learn the language and maybe meet a nice guy or girl to marry. There quite a few stories I heard about life with the Imperial army in occupied China. Then there was the time in college I asked a Chinese girl out to see a kabuki play. Note to self, Never do that again!
Of course Japan does little things to PO China. Note they recently launched JMSDF "helicopter destroyer" JS Izumo. which is the second ship to bear this name. The first Izumo was stationed off Shanghai during the occupation. Sometimes you don't need Western Union to send a message.

Silly.

About the off topic subject.

I've met a few Korean friends who's parents absolutely hate Japanese people and I could never go over to their house to hang out. But our generation doesn't seem to hold as strong of a grudge against the Japanese. At least here in California, all the races seem to get along even though they kind of "section" themselves off in their own groups.
