I see a lot of people say its good. especially after the first episode, which I didn't even get past the first 10 minutes. it'd be a lot of help if someone could give me some good reasons to check it out.

to be more specific, I stopped watching when the MC tried to reel in a big fish. people might grill me for that......

I agree it was kinda hard for me to get into. The first three arcs are kinda boring, but the fourth arc is my favorite arc of the whole series. You'll have to endure 36 episodes to get to it, but it's completely worth it.

HxH is a slow starter. Needs about 30 episodes before it starts dealing with the unique powers the characters have. After that it starts getting really epic. The original was one of my favorites of all time, and the new version is great too.

Yep, you need to give it a certain amount of episodes before it gets good. Should at least go to episode 6 or so, since the hunter exams are the first kind of cool thing that happens.

Don't be fooled by the goofy episodes, the show gets pretty freaking dark at points. It's kind of like the disparity in Dragon Ball where early on its a goofy lighthearted adventure story, but there's also crazy stuff later like Imperfect Cell sucking up thousands of people. Except HxH gets WAY WAY darker than that, way more often.

I don't really think 10 minutes into the first episode is trying necessarily . Like others have said give it 30 or so episodes and it starts getting a lot better and not for kids haha. If you don't give it time you don't but I really think your missing out of a great anime!! But you know your tastes better then anyone so if you think you've got a fair assessment of it then you do.

if you're not into adventure/fighting anime... there's no point of forcing yourself to watch it.

Ultimately, it's an adventure/fighting anime. there are so many good qualities about it... but i dont' think you're into the genre if you can't make it past the first episode...

the reason i got hooked is because i was curious why the little boy was chasing after his dad. and why his dad left him to be a "hunter". And during the boat scene in the storm... it was quite interesting.

If you don't get curious about those characters, it's hard to stay hooked. :/

_____

HxH has more than just 5 characters. it's sort of like naruto in the sense that it has 100 of characters. but what is different from naruto is that those 100 characters are very interesting... they're not just there as extras or background noise.

^^Yep. One episode, or even 10 minutes of the first episode, should be enough to tell if it's for you or not.

I think if you feel like you won't like it then there's no point in trying to force yourself to like it

On the other hand, I love this anime :D
1. it has interesting characters and their stories tug at my heart strings
2. the plot becomes very dark
3. at times, it became quite philosophical

Do you always judge whether you'll like an anime by the first ten minutes?

Do you judge whether you'll enjoy a book based on the first three pages?

Please stop.

That said, give it until a few episodes into the main Hunter exam starts. If you still can't get into it, go ahead and peace out with no regrets. I mean, even that is still by no means an accurate gauge of what the show is going to become, but no one should have to sit through 20-30 episodes of something they don't like just to see if they might like it eventually. You have to at least have something you like about a show to be willing to sit through a slow start.

Someone else not liking a show you like doesn't detract from your personal enjoyment, so there's no reason to be so hostile.

Yep, I can usually tell if an anime is any good in the first few seconds. And I think if a novel doesn't grab you in the first sentence, it's probably rubbish.

There are too many good shows and books to waste any time on the 90% of everything which is crap.

But you know... I think the person who started this thread was just setting it up to bash on people who love HxH. It's one of my favorites, and I knew I would like it immediately.
