Since you said you were planing on having 4-5 people in it a fair bit of the time I'd avoid a compact just because of leg room issues.

I've seen 2 people suggest a Honda civic and I've had one before and really enjoyed it. I know it's a sedan and you said you're not really interested in getting a sedan but it's a fairly safe car that gets good gas mileage.

Right now I have a 2014 Chevy Cruse and I get somewhere around 500 miles per tank of gas according to the estimate on my dashboard after I get gas. But I do a lot of highway driving for work so I'd guess an average person would get less. I think I remember hearing the 2015 Cruse has a 4G LTE hot spot in it, not sure if it's an extra or anything but if it's standard it would be useful to have for longer trips so people don't burn through the data on their phones.

If sedans are really a deal breaker for you one thing you could do is look at something that can be a hatchback. It would give the people in the back seat more leg room which was one thing you said you were worried about. However, the trade off with hatchbacks is that they have almost no trunk space so depending on how much trunk space you think you're going to need it might not be a good idea...

The main advice I can give you is to remember that there are going to be dealer fees so it's a good idea to plan for the car to be ~2k more then it's listed maybe 3k if you get extras like a service contract. Worse case you estimate it being slightly higher and you can add the extra bit into the down payment.

That's not a bad idea.

Yeah, but I love the sound of a v8 getting wound out. *sighs*

I can understand that, me too! I love the sound of a V8 with a great exhaust (Borla or Flowmaster) and maybe some engine work (cam), but I would never daily drive a 454BB, on weekends maybe, but that's about it. I don't think I would daily a small block 350.

Whatever floats your boat.
