On/off /mu/ (and /m/, /trv/, and /fit/ poster) so knew about it since its inception. More or less I know its "dead" or morph into the upbeat "future funk" (TBH I would've labelled this music nu-disco/ French house/ disco house years ago). Once tumblr and MTV started using the visual aesthetics, it was basically over.

Bubblegum/kawaii bass is something I have heard of for only the past 2 years with people associated with the whole post-dusbtep/bass music scene moving away from the dark, moody sounds into a 180 for upbeat vibes and lately it being mixed with the kawaii aesthetic.
TLDR take trap, footwork, Jersey club, grime, UK garage and mix it with Europop, JPop, KPop, etc

Ahh well /mu/ kinda has a neo-vaporwave thing going on right know. And alot of Ironic Pitbull threads. So much we tried to all give the Dale album 5 stars on RYM. We all got banned but it was pretty funny.

I know Bubblegum Bass most vaporwave esque music bores me.

The more ambient sides of vaporwave are really interesting imo.
