Just watched Plastic Memories that was a bit hard to watch at the end. Stuck in my mind for days.

I also agree with scoobydew recommending Clannad After Story but watch Clannad first. I was properly messed up by that.

Also, not mentioned is Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 . Worth a watch.

If you have not seen "Air " give that a go. It has a sort of side story in the middle which I loved.

There are lots but that should do for now.

Good luck you will need it for some of those.

Here's a pretty random assortment, picked from things I like:

http://www.crunchyroll.com/anohana-the-flower-we-saw-that-day
Very sad anime about a ghost girl

http://www.crunchyroll.com/angel-beats
Sad anime about a bunch of kids in the afterlife

http://www.crunchyroll.com/listen-to-me-girls-im-your-father
Mostly an ecchi comedy, but some sad moments

http://www.hulu.com/clannad
The legendary Clannad

http://www.hulu.com/clannad-after-story
The even more legendary sequel to Clannad

Cross Game
Apparently there's no longer a legal stream for this. Very retro looking (yet not very old) baseball series/Slice of life. It has lots of feels.

She: The Ultimate Weapon is really depressing,
AIR is really good one particular episode the ending really got me,
Welcome to the NHK while an otaku comedy at heart does have tons of depressing moments.

+1 5cm Per Second
Voices of a Distant Star
+1 Anohana
+1 Clannad
+1 Clannad After Story
+1 Angel Beats
True Tears (not everyone thinks it's sad, but many do, at least the ending)
Kanon (2006 version)
Hanbun no Tsuki ga Noboru Sora - (more from setting than from outcome.)
Rumbling Hearts
Saikano (I wasn't terribly fond of the series, but its conclusion can fall under the sad category)

Although not sad in its entirety - there is sadness in terms of the relationships and emotional baggage of the characters of Kokoro Connect (keep in mind also, Crunchy has this, but only eps 1-13, there were 4 more that came later that tie the show together for a final conclusion, but they are not available on crunchy)

Rozen Maiden & Rozen Maiden Traumend (the first series is generally cheerful but the sequel gets a little brutal in places).

Really? I have seen GTO a couple times now and I can't say there is more than 1 or 2 mildly sad parts, but its in-between 20 minutes of comedy and pretty much every episode.

But... each of us have different opinions, so I must respect yours. I just don't count it on the same level as Clannad, or Anohana or Angel Beats (though Angel beats has some good comedy too, just can't keep a dry eye in episode 3 or the end).

Okay, I could not finish Chrono Crusade because, well.... it was just slow. But if you are saying the end was a gotcha I will give the rest a chance, hate have a negative opinion on something I only watched 3 quarters of.

hmm... Should try watching Emma: A Victorian romance. Very good story the romance is kinda slow and the drama is good not sure if its all that sad in my opinion but overall check it out. If you like that one also try Romeo x Juliet haven't finished it yet but halfway through another good one. they both take place in oldstyle London I guess BTW they both are 24 episode series so.
