I'm using the official Android app and a Chromecast to stream to a TV. While the app shows videos in HD quality, all the Chromecast streams seem to be SD. In the app, quality is set to "High".

Also the official Samsung SmartTV app can only do 480p. The only TV streaming device I own that is capable of Full HD Crunchyroll is my Raspberry Pi with XBMC (it even has a proper settings menu to pick quality). That's why I can tell that Chromecast and Samsung app are definitely not even 720p.

Is the Chromecast even capable of 720p or 1080p Crunchyroll? Youtube and Netflix work fine in 1080p on the Chromecast. Maybe I'm missing some global setting for these devices?

Nobody, really?

I assume there is no official support for 3rd party hardware and applications then (altough the 'official' android app offers the Chromecast button).

Also it seems the Smart TV app was removed from the Samsung store in the meantime...

In the original announcement of Chromecast support, CR never stated explicitly that it supported 720p or 1080p, but they did imply it supported HD, as the announcement ended with:

Wanna watch your favorite anime in HD and ad-free on the big screen? Grab your Premium Membership trial and check out all that we have to offer!

It would seem strange to have that in an announcement for support for a device for streaming to the "big screen" if it didn't support at least 720p.
