Hello everyone!

I wrote a review for fate/stay night unlimited blade works here~ http://myanimelist.net/reviews.php?id=193904

it's my first review, what do you people think? Is it good? Anything I should wrote about differently? Focused on more? Focused on less?

:-)

Do we really need a seperate thread for this? Couldn't this fit into the "last show I finished" thread or something in the general discussion forum? Well, since it's open anyway (and I'm bored), I'll just give you some feedback, "in before close" style.

First let me start off by saying that if you want to seriously review stuff, then MAL isn't the place for you. To get your review somewhere along the top spots on MAL you'll have to change it in some significant ways. It needs a hook in the first few lines so people even click the "see more" button before judging your review, it needs a score that catches peoples eyes, it can't be too short but it shouldn't be too long either or people won't read it.

As for your review specifically: I can't see your personal touch in there, it lacks proper analysis. Most of it is just you going: "I liked that aspect of the show, that was nice, I thought this was intriguing.". You bring nothing new to the table, I can't think of a reason why I should read this. What I normally do when it comes to writing reviews on MAL is that I look at the ones that are already there and I think about whether or not I can add something that would actually be worth reading. And there are definitely better reviews for Fate out there (shameless plug for my own review ).

So, sorry for being a little harsh here, but you wanted feedback, so I'm not gonna go easy I'm just trying to be helpful after all.
For what it's worth: It isn't too bad for a first review. It's got a decent length and you actually go into quite a bit of detail when it comes to story and character, but your lack of experience definitely shows.

Well, I don't mind if it goes to the bottom quickly, just some quick feedback is enough. XD I thought this way only experienced people would respond.

I don't mind you 'being harsh' - in fact you aren't being that harsh seeing what you write at the end , and your feedback is helpfull. I will keep this things in mind next time I write a review. And I guess you are right about MAL not being the place - what I found particularly difficult was to write a review which does have interesting analysis and ideas without having too give too many spoilers, which is explicitly forbidden apperently in MAL reviews.

Anyway, thanks for the encouragement, I think next time I will keep the length the same (I thought it was about right as well), but write a bit more about the overall plot/story/characters, and a bit less about my own personal enjoyment (subjective) and sound/music.

And I will first see if there are aspects of the show which other reviewers have not yet talked about.

thank you!

Oh, it most definitely is not. I've written reviews on MAL before where I spoil the shit out of a series (case in point: Fate/stay night) and nobody ever complained to me about that. As long as you give an indication that there'll be spoilers there you'll most definitely be fine.

Don't you have at least a couple of criticisms of the show? All I read was you finding stuff interesting and intriguing. What about the downfalls of the show? None? Impossible. No show is perfect, and you need to analyze the good AND bad aspects.

Also:

I would want to write more about the characters and story, but I am afraid I would spoil too much for it to be acceptable under the site's review rules. Let 's just say there are very interesting and captivating, and a big part of why I enjoyed the story.

This is what you wrote; don't ever write like this in a review. If you had already mentioned in the beginning of the review it was going to be spoiled then why put this here? Like the above post, your review does lack anything worthy of reading. Most of the things you included in your review would already have been understood by the viewers had they watched it themselves. There would be no need to repeat that.
