Many black rights groups like the NAACP are just as extreme as the white supremacists. Both are a joke and damaging to their respective races.

I don't understand all the BS around the confederate flag. I, as a minority, do not see the need to take down the flag. It represents an important part of American history as well as being a symbol of southern pride.

My culture and heritage as a black person is something I can smile about and it brings me joy to know that culture has spread around the world little boys and girls wanting to be just like Michael Jordan or Jackson to Stevie Wonder and there is one interview I watched and liked by Roger Troutman did in Tokyo all in all our culture is rich with history not just athletes and musicians either but geniuses too. Here's the interview but avoid the title: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bJhni9kXA5U

Yeah that title is kinda messed up. I find it cool that Zapp could come from the area near where I live and make it all the way to Japan. Though alot of Funk came from southern Ohio. I also think Zapp are criminally written out when it comes to the development of electronic dance music. The most recent Daft Punk album is largely hardcore Zapp worship.

It may be a important part of American history but that's still not an excuse for it signifying one race's superiority over another race the creator said it himself it is a symbol of white supremacy over blacks and I might step on some toes with this statement but I'm saying it anyway. When the Declaration of Independence was written the saying "All men are created equal" is not exactly true they had the white man in mind not the Native Americans who after helping them they killed and raped not the blacks who they drugged here against their will but the white man. And Women's Rights they weren't thinking of black women they were thinking of white women because when it was passed in 1920 black women wouldn't be able to vote for another 40+years. I'm sorry if I came off a little racist but that is something that's been on my mind as of late.

There our other things to be proud of in the south(blues music for one) than that one time your states seceded to keep up a practice of keeping humans slaves. I have gotten alot of flack for this opinion at school but its like If I honored my german heritage by wearing a swastika t-shirt. Be proud of your heritage but be proud of the good stuff that it provided not the hatred it produced.

I guess the swastika is just as much of a symbol of cultural pride as the confederate flag.

Germany does its absolute best to downplay Nazism so much its illegal to fly the swastika. If someone uses the it as a symbol of cultural pride they are most likely Neo-Nazis or racist of some kind. Either way terrible people. The south should take after Germanys example and cut that shit out. Stop flying it on government buildings and as douchey as this sounds give people shit for having the flag. I have no respect for anyone who flies the flag of a nation or group that tried keep humans as slaves or committed mass genocide.

Maybe comparing them to white supremacists was a bit much, but they are definitely a joke. Sad to see the black community is largely killing itself with crap like BET and perpetuating stereotypes with TV and movie.

About the flag, no one is denying people see the flag as a declaration of white superiority. In fact, it is the majority opinion, If it wasn't, there wouldn't be an opposition to the flag. The anti-flag side see it as a declaration fo white superiority. I assume some on the pro-flag side do as well, but they are in the infinite minority. I think the whole southern pride thing is about being rebellious and not really related to the sind of the past. I doubt many on the pro-lag side want to own slaves and plantations.

I hope those who are pro-flag understand that the flag they wave stood for white power having blacks and whoever else under their feet working for them they fucking auctioned us, bred us and traded us like we were property or livestock that shit just pisses me off thinking about that when we had as much value as them as humans. They must have a thorough understanding of the symbolism and the history of that flag if they want to wave it. Another point I want to bring up is they are the Bible belt right? Well god didn't write in his gospel to beat and murder your fellow man he wrote to love and help your fellow man so that within itself is a contradiction.

But that brings up the issue of context. Context is absolutely the issue here. The swastika has many different cultural meanings(much like flags) to many different people. It is a symbol of hate to many, but it also a symbol of good luck and protection to others. In fact, the word swastkia means "all is well" in Sanskrit. . I doubt the people using the symbol before the Nazis would give such a name to a symbol of hatred. It is a sacred symbol in many Asian religions and still holds its sacred status even after it has been defined in the west. This ties in perfectly to the Confederate flag issue. Many see it as a symbol of hate and oppression, but the majority see it as a symbol of being rebellious and having pride of being from the south. I really cannot believe the pro-flag side is made up entirely of white supremacists and slavery sympathizers. Context matters. Then again in our overreactive PC culture, even contenxt means jackshit: http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/grade-point/wp/2015/03/18/another-swastika-at-gw-this-one-was-posted-by-a-jewish-student/

I can agree that there are other things to be prideful about, but flags are created for the express purpose to represent a collective. In this case it represents those who have pride in being southern.

No one disagrees that flag did represent hated and white superiority. But the anti-flag side makes it seem the pro-flag side are nothing more than slavery sympathizers. History matters, but it isn't the only context here. The flag has morphed into a symbol of rebellion and southern pride and has little relation to hatred and slavery.
