Really the award should have gone to some undiscovered artist who hasn't slumped to selling sex over music yet. But who really cares about any of this?

I do not understand what nicki was trying to say in her tweets and I don't think she was talking about most of the things you said. Im very confused here so im just going to say that i wish there wasn't racism and the size issue in media. I dislike how much praise skinny women get and how women not size 0 get bullied alot and how white is power in media but if your black its going to take some time for you to get on top. Really, i wish one day everyone will look back on this and laugh at it. I can see it now, in the future we'll be judging people on their personality when we get to know them well ( or not judging at all for that matter!) I just hate that people will flame on others just because of their appearance.

She was/has. As I said in the post, she often speaks about this stuff on her twitter too.
And I agree.

Rewards should of gone to the most successful music artist.
Her video was more than that, which is why its talked about a lot.
Also that happened before with that Beck (who?) guy. Literally everyone knows/thinks Beyonce should of won tbh.

To be fair, someone always seems to give Taylor Swift hell whenever she wins something. Remember Kanye? I can't really blame her for being sensitive about it..

As for Nicki Minaj's tweets, they really do come off as passive aggressive and entitled.

Kanye just realizes when credit is really due to.
Hell, he one time when he won a reward for one of his songs one time but insisted that that reward should of belonged to the person who actually deserved it.

Also Taylors reply wasn't?

That was the Grammy's, I forgot what year. Kanye won best Hip-Hop album and he said Lil' Wayne's album was better and deserved to win. Then the media spinned it as him complaining about winning an award.

Not surprised Taylor interjected herself into somebody else's business. Ever since the the Kanye incident (how many years ago was that) she been exalted on a pedestal. So she thinks she can do wrong.

I get what Nicki is saying, but it's a VMA.

Case and point on why the mainstream music industry is a mess...Take a cue from the Oscars if you want to see an award ceremony that at least tries to introduce people to more niche films (its certainly not perfect though)

While I don't really like that Beck album, he is certainly not a nobody. Anyways, giving such a big award to such a niche artist is a step in the right direction. Award shows should not be a popularity contest.

But still, the VMAs are trash and the Grammys are barely any better...

Yeah.

And honestly I don't think Nicki cares that much that she didn't win, knowing her.
She was just trying to make a point on what she has been discussing for a while, and that was a perfect example.

Ehh not really.
Doing that just sounds like you're doing that out of pity for that artist, or maybe even spite.

Haha, Swift is such a fox. She pretty much threw it back at her. Nicki needs lessons in strategy.

Taylor's reply seemed more angry and defensive, in response to Minaj.

And I cannot believe you just sided with that a-hole Kanye.

Sorry, having trouble seeing the bigger picture. Maybe I'm just old but it seems ridiculous. If this is to be the focus of our social dialogue, god help us all. Surely there are better things to be focusing on than the latest twitter battle between 2 pop stars. If you want to have a discussion about feminism or social justice, this is not a great starting point.

I'm bad at explaining.
What I'm trying to say/show here is the clear inequality between white & non-white women in entertainment/media.
whenever a non-white women discusses about stuff like this & feminist ideas i guess, it gets ignored. And they're also turned against on,like whats happening now.
But if someone like Taylor, a white women, speaks about it just once or just even mentions equality, its everywhere, she's praised & loved for it.
Nicki (non-white women) speak about this stuff all the time, and mentions it all the time. But they never get attention for it.

So what me (& Nicki) are saying is that non-white women (and ones that aren't skinny/slim) in the entertainment industry just never get credit for what they clearly deserve.
I just thought using this situation was a good example of that.

Honestly, she did sound pretty bitter. She clearly started by just complaining she didn't get a nomination without focusing on racism. Then she certainly did take a stab at Taylor Swift with the comments. My take: Nicki thinks she is way more clever and subtle than she is and tried to play it off after she was caught.

Not sure why she would deserve a nomination anyway. It would be pretty depressing if a video of just chicks shaking their butts won video of the year. Not sure why she doesn't realize people only watched for the ass shaking. The video and song have zero substance. It also seems Bad Blood is getting views way quicker than Anaconda. BB has like 3/4ths the views in approx 1/6th the time of anaconda anyway.

Also there are a bunch of black artists nominated for VOTY so it seems the race issue is irrelevant to me. I feel like Nicki was just complaining. I like a lot of what she does but anaconda was pretty damn lame.

I'll admit never saw the Feeling Myself video though, but I do kind of think Nicki failed today to make a point.
