Honestly, she did sound pretty bitter. She clearly started by just complaining she didn't get a nomination without focusing on racism. Then she certainly did take a stab at Taylor Swift with the comments. My take: Nicki thinks she is way more clever and subtle than she is and tried to play it off after she was caught.

Not sure why she would deserve a nomination anyway. It would be pretty depressing if a video of just chicks shaking their butts won video of the year. Not sure why she doesn't realize people only watched for the ass shaking. The video and song have zero substance. It also seems Bad Blood is getting views way quicker than Anaconda. BB has like 3/4ths the views in approx 1/6th the time of anaconda anyway.

Also there are a bunch of black artists nominated for VOTY so it seems the race issue is irrelevant to me. I feel like Nicki was just complaining. I like a lot of what she does but anaconda was pretty damn lame.

I'll admit never saw the Feeling Myself video though, but I do kind of think Nicki failed today to make a point.

Taylor Swift, I like her, but why did she have to make it all about her?
Pretty selfish. But then again, why am I surprised .-.

I don't agree with the White Savior/ Black Angry Woman comment though
and that is just going to stir things up.

The media is already doing a good enough job of stiring stuff up
between white people and black people... don't need anyone else
to do their job.

Short story is Taylor should have just shut the fuck up and realized it wasnt about her. Secondly on Nicki Minajs part(and I say this as a person who believes Kendrick deserves pretty much every award this year.) Anaconda was easily the biggest video of the year and should probably win simply cause it got people to actually pay attention to a music video (Though from a artistic standpoint Kendrick's Alright should still win).

Really the award should have gone to some undiscovered artist who hasn't slumped to selling sex over music yet. But who really cares about any of this?

Rewards should of gone to the most successful music artist.
Her video was more than that, which is why its talked about a lot.
Also that happened before with that Beck (who?) guy. Literally everyone knows/thinks Beyonce should of won tbh.

Including Beck for the record.

If the awards go to an artist for being the most popular its not really any type of music award. Nicki may have had more views for her videos but it doesn't mean it was new or influential to the industry in any way (perhaps the reason why she didn't get the reward?). There are some upstarts out there right now who have brought the next big thing in music and deserve the reward but will be shunted for the pop-product who is backed by the record label. And if everyone literally knows/thinks Beyoncé should of won then she would have, but really this conversation is dumb, doubly so if you don't even know who Beck is....

You make some pretty crazy assumptions there. I never once said music that covered sexuality was bad or even implied it. If you can't recognize the difference between an artist using sexual themes in their medium and a media product pushing sex for a cheap and easy audience than maybe you shouldn't try reading between lines so much. You'll end up finding a lot of things that just aren't there.

I care about celebrities like rappers. I love to see rappers' beefs, especially Nicki's. It's the shade that gets thrown that makes it interesting.

Anyway, I'm on Nicki's side for this, because it's pretty hard to deny that there's racism in the industry. I'm not exactly sure this is an example of it though...

Ehh not really.
Doing that just sounds like you're doing that out of pity for that artist, or maybe even spite.

Giving the award to the person who actually deserves it is pity...interesting how your mind works.

Nicki (non-white women) speak about this stuff all the time, and mentions it all the time. But they never get attention for it..

I think the impact of your words gets weakened a bit when you make songs with lyrics like "his dick bigger than a tower" and "Fuck you if you skinny bitches.".

Taylor is a role model for a lot of young women and girls while Nikki is just crazy. Do you listen to her music? She is off the rails. If you want to talk about a women of color being a role model and getting attention for bringing attention to feminism, look no further than Beyonce who (surprise) was nominated for VOTY....

Im sorry if I assumed anything in your statement that wasnt there but if hanging around the indie scene for a couple years has taught me anything its that any sexual content from a female is largely written of as just "sex sells" and ugly words like "whore" and "slut" get thrown around. There is a sexist dichotomy with females artists were if there sexual there immediately written of as just selling sex and when its a male artist they are treated as just another artist.

Especially in rap music where it is common for female artists to be just as sexual as the male artists they are almost always written off as just "selling sex"

Where for you is the point where sex starts being sold over the music for you?
