Device: Logitech Revue
OS: Android 3.2
Connection: 100Mbps Ethernet
App Version: Crunchyroll for Google TV (Beta)

This app is no longer working for me. It was working as of about 1pm on 7/21. Around 6pm on 7/21, it is no longer functioning. Since I had left the app open, I tried to back to the main listing of shows and got an error about not being able to load the stream. After backing out of the app, I now get "There was a problem starting the app."

At this point, I have tried the following:

Restarting the app.
Force Closing the app.
Restarting the device.
Clearing the app data.
Uninstalling and Re-installing the app.

Other streaming services that are installed on the machine continue to function properly. Please advise on what next steps I can take.

Seems you didn't get the email. Crunchyroll dropped support for most smart TVs and blu-rays including Google TV (and Saumsung and Panasonic) as well as Ouya. The only smart TVs that may work are those that run the Roku OS.

This means you will no longer be able to watch on your TV without buying something new.
http://www.crunchyroll.com/devices I cancelled until I build a kodi box for the TV but if that's not for you maybe look into a chromecast.

Thanks for the reply!

I was afraid it was something like that. Last non sale, queue update, or "gift your subscription" email I got was about the premium membership changes. That's unfortunate. Though Tuesday afternoon is a really... ah.... interesting cut-off time. My poor Revue is having an awful month. First it gets forced into updating to an absolutely abysmal YouTube "app", and now this.

Kodi looks like a nice system for a HTPC, but I'm not really prepared to build such a machine after just throwing a bunch of money at a low power pfSense build. A Plex server machine is right out.

A direct upgrade from what I got currently, and could probably squeeze into the budget, would probably be a Nexus Player. Can anyone confirm if a Nexus Player (or any of the Android TV machines) work with Crunchyroll android app casting (like a Chromecast would), or if Kodi for Android supports adding and running the Crunchyroll add-in?

It should technically be possible to sideload our Android app to your Google TV device. However it may not work 100% and we can't offer support, if you do that.

Try the android app and let's find out. I tried it on the OUYA and it was SD and always pooped out after approx 5 min for some reason.
Many android boxes will work great. kodi on android sometimes has permission problems with the CR plugin where it cannot write what it needs fails immediately, I was not able to solve it on the OUYA but it may work fine on your device.
As far as the Nexus Player you might want to read this http://www.crunchyroll.com/forumtopic-888545/fails-to-initialize-video-nexus-player

Unfortunately, even though I can confirm the Android app works I think it's limited to 720p. If you can get Kodi with the Crunchyroll add-on or Plex with the Crunchyroll channel, I find those work better than anything else.

An Important Announcement Regarding Smart TV Support
crunchyroll.com
Thank you for supporting Crunchyroll and the Anime Industry.

We wanted to reach out and let you know that as of July 15th, 2015, we will no longer be supporting the following devices: Samsung TV, Panasonic TV, Google TV, and Ouya. We are discontinuing support on these devices to focus our development teams and improve the Crunchyroll experience across other platforms. This doesn't mean we won't consider supporting these devices in the future, but for now, we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Though service for these devices is being discontinued, we are aware of the demand for and importance of the ability to enjoy our content in your living room. We will continue to work our hardest to be able to offer access in as many ways as possible.

Click here to view our full list of supported devices. If you have any questions regarding your subscription or your service, please feel free to respond directly to this email and we'll help you out!

Regards,
The Crunchyroll Team

Thanks for the additional info everyone. Good to know that some tinkering (maybe rooting and/or ADB) may be involved if the Kodi for Android route is taken.

Although sideloading the CR app directly is an option, and one of the more appealing ones, I was actually wondering if the casting works from the app against a Android TV machine. I'm under the impression that Android TV gives you a heavily boosted Chromecast built in (in addition to its other strengths).

Can anyone confirm that you can cast from a CR app on an Android phone or tablet to a Android TV device? I see in the other thread linked that the OP there was able to cast a chrome tab from a PC, but it was not a nice handoff.

Does this go for ChromeCast as well? I haven't been able to cast from phone or computer for the past week or so

This might be a related to a forced system update by Google recently. I've already reported that to our devs.

As an update to anyone else looking for an upgrade path, I picked up a Nexus Player (from a big box store for an easy return of this blows up in my face) and it does in fact allow a device with the CR app to cast to the Android TV device same as a Chromecast. Not quite as cool as a dedicated app, but it works.

Halfway through one show with no stuttering. CR app on my phone is set to high quality. Not sure how to check, if it is running at 1080 or 720, but it looks pretty good to me. The controls could use a little (or a lot of) work.

I'll see about sideloading and Kodi for Android a little later.

Google TV is still listed at the bottom of the forum.

This should be fixed!

For those asking, I can confirm that the Crunchyroll Android app can be sideloaded to Android TV on the Nexus Player. It displays the tablet UI in landscape mode by default, which is mostly usable with just the remote. Queue is easily accessible, videos play just fine in HD, and as a bonus left/right on the remote act as skip back/forward. This makes it somewhat more convenient than casting from a phone or other device.

But it of course doesn't include any of the core Android TV leanback features. Here's hoping that we'll see something soon like the WiiU app ...

Tips: to sideload, use ES File Explorer to transfer the apk from phone to TV and install it, and use Sideload Launcher to launch the app on the TV.
