They probably have an overloaded development team and prefer to drop the support instead of hiring more engeneers.

Here is the text of the email they sent which is what they say for why.

An Important Announcement Regarding Smart TV Support
crunchyroll.com
Thank you for supporting Crunchyroll and the Anime Industry.

We wanted to reach out and let you know that as of July 15th, 2015, we will no longer be supporting the following devices: Samsung TV, Panasonic TV, Google TV, and Ouya. We are discontinuing support on these devices to focus our development teams and improve the Crunchyroll experience across other platforms. This doesn't mean we won't consider supporting these devices in the future, but for now, we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Though service for these devices is being discontinued, we are aware of the demand for and importance of the ability to enjoy our content in your living room. We will continue to work our hardest to be able to offer access in as many ways as possible.

Click here to view our full list of supported devices. If you have any questions regarding your subscription or your service, please feel free to respond directly to this email and we'll help you out!

Regards,
The Crunchyroll Team

Well. I have a PC connected to my TV using HDMI too.
But I don't want to use extra 300w of power just for Crunchyroll.
Also, the TV app was much more convenient. Just turn the tv on and watch .

Yes , the app was convenient . Since it was on my Blu-ray player I got better sound than my Xbox 360 too . Only no HD < promised < lied to < dropped . Yes , I'm on pc now in the living room but the fans can get loud after watching 1080p after awhile .

NOOOOOOO!!! I WAS ABOUT TO ASK ABOUT THIS ISSUE!! MY BROTHER WAS ASKING ME WHEN HE NOTICED MY TV DIDN'T HAVE CR NO MORE !!

It really sucks :/. My best advice would be to get a roku or a roku stick which is a lot cheaper than a roku 3. Even a roku 2 which is a better price would be fine. I was just lucky enough to have one. It really sucks though DX. Oh get an HDMI cable too if you do get a roku except I don't think you need one for a stick. I just can't watch CR on my phone or laptop
My Samsung TV is superior lol.

The CR app disappeared from my Samsung Blu- Ray player. Most annoying, especially since I never got any such email about CR discontinuing support for Samsung devices. Thank goodness I kept my PS3, looks like I'll have to hook that back up to watch anime on my big screen TV.

As someone higher up than me in customer service has pointed out in one of the other threads, the reason for the discontinuation of the apps for those devices are the very low user numbers. We are fully aware that those affected by the discontinuation might be very upset, which is why we are offering refunds of existing memberships, just reach out to us via the /contact form to explore your options.

This doesnt make any sense. How much man power could it possibly take to run the app? I can't remember the last time it even needed to be updated. There is more to this then are telling us.

Low user numbers? Give me a break. All they had to do was just leave the app alone. What I think happened is that Samsung was getting a piece of the pie and Crunchyroll was losing money from the low user base, so they dropped it.

Unless you have an old Pentium 4 system, it shouldn't be using anything approaching that for a 1080p Flash stream. Even my almost 7 year old AMD system uses only around 80 watts.
