I've been meditating for a long time. It made me feel more focused, more calm, more happy. I tried Zen Meditation and it made me feel good. What do you think of meditation?

How does one meditate? Do you have to clear your mind or think of some peaceful place? How do you even clear your mind anyways?! I have too many things going thru my mind that it might not even work for me...

TM = Transcendental Meditation. I began meditating due to a college professor literally saving me from an addictive prescription medication I was told by my doctors to take. It's helped me avoid medication except in extremely painful cases.

Seems like it works really well for people! I'd like to try to sometime. And also yoga.

I practice yoga and meditation--they both help relieve a lot of stress from school, family life, work, etc. When I'm studying, I always take breaks to meditate and I find that those breaks help me focus better and get less distracted.

I don't do it but I recognize its benefits.

I meditate once every so often. I was having a bad migraine once, so I meditated some of the pain away. And then I got to comfortable and fell asleep. lol

It helps through anxiety for me and I learned who I was really early since I started pretty early.

I used to about 7 years ago but I've become much busier so I stopped.

Emptying your mind is hard. The technique I always used was imagination rather than a mere vague emptying. I imagine myself sitting like a stone at the flat, sandy bottom of a lake or sea. The water is not cold or warm, it is clear and clean. A good amount of pleasant light above reaches me and I know it is day. There is almost no water current. I imagine myself there and feel the familiar pressure or the water slowing my thoughts and movements. I hear the faint sound of the water in my ear, like a different type of white noise, and I can breathe in the water. It is a place of slowness and stillness and timelessness.

Whenever I have any other thought, I imagine it encapsulated in an air bubble that escapes through my head. It drifts up and away in a silver blob and is never coming back. Emotions, too, are captured and transported to the surface by the bubbles. Curious little fish investigate sometimes but eventually leave me, as I am like a stone statue. There is no plant life anywhere in sight, so the fish continue onward as I remain in the underwater desert. I can't tell if I'm deep in the water or the surface is merely a few feet away, but it doesn't matter in a place like that.

I tend to only focus when I'm doing something that takes concentration.

Meditation seems very cool! I was thinking about beginning with meditation, and these few comments here have certainly set my mind to it, thanks to you all!
