When I played sports in college most of the team'd go out running together every morning around 5:00, hit the showers afterwards then group back up and stop by the cafeteria before classes. It was grueling at first (both the running and the early hour), but the sense of camaraderie was awesome.

I really should get back in the habit again if I want to live to see 40.. Music helps, but I find running by yourself is still pretty crappy in comparison. Probably has something to do with schadenfreude.

Do I?

I don't race, but I do run (or rather, basically sprint) over middle distances (about 2.5 km) three times a week. That's the best way to keep a good figure for me, and it just leaves me with a sense of pride and accomplishment. Singing cadences helps regulate my breathing and my gait, so I recommend it to anyone who doesn't. I've found it can make the difference between breaking "the wall" and not breaking it.

There have been occasions where I even got people to join in. What a sight we must've been.

I suppose The Carpenters' "Top of the World" might be something I might listen to while plodding along, but mostly it's either BBC news broadcasts or silence. I don't like wearing headphones when I run very much.

Edit: OOH! And show tunes. I love musicals.

Good choices, those.

So, any particular foods you favour for supporting your nutrients? I prefer bananas and apples, because the skin of the apples sates hunger while the bananas provide a big potassium and sugar boost. I can't say my diet's perfect, though, because I drink.

I can run fast but I'm really out of shape. I once ran from the library parking lot (close to library, just around the corner and down 9-11 sidewalk squares) to the library to pick up some manga in 5 seconds flat.
