Online Counseling
Posted 7/24/15
Has anyone else had any experience with Online Counseling?
I just recently started seeing a counselor through betterhelp.com

It's pretty pricey but considering my main counselor hasn't seen me
in a year vs I can get counseling every day.

What are your views on online counseling?
Do you think it has potential?

What would be the possible pros and cons?

Bonus:

For you Psych majors if there are any,
would you ever work for a company like that?

Sounds kinda odd. I mean what's the training to be an online counselor?

That's what I'm wondering,
I mean all these people
have degrees so I guess I can't
complain.

Still, you never know if you
will get one who got their
license out of a cracker jack box.

I personally think it'd be better to see someone in person. It just seems like it'd be more reliable, since you can be sure that they have a license. And plus, sometimes just getting out of the house and speaking to someone in person can help, depending on what you're going to counseling for. Therapy is an investment, so it's best that you're completely confident in your therapist before committing to it.

Mhm.
Agreed.

Well, since I started this little experiment,
the counselor lady has been really helpful

I mean I like her pretty well I suppose,
I've never had any luck with anyone else so
what the hell, right?

The only thing is,
I DO have a real life counselor,
but she doesn't see me but like once a year.

And I need more treatment than that,
it's bullshit.

*sigh*
I dunno,
I'll explain more after the week
trial ends lol.

I guess if u really need someone to talk to, I guess online counseling is better than nothing. But I still don't think it can replace seeing a person face-to-face, as you can't really feel the emotions from the other person.
Does this online counseling provide video chats as part of the counseling, or is it all just private messages? If video chats are available, perhaps those might be more helpful for u.

This is all just PM and Phone Calls.
What I don't get is how someone
can make a buck off of someone
elses SERIOUS problems..

Whether it's face to face
OR
Online. :/

As a supplement to traditonal going to see someone, sure, if its not too expensive to do both.Good luck.

doing both together would be optimal but it helps on days where you don't feel comfortable seeing a professional in person i guess

That's on you to find someone that cares about you and would talk to you about the same things then

I have both counseling & therapy & had online counseling for a bit as well.
I prefer in person because they're just often volunteers, and don't actually help imo. At least for me, because I needed more professional help.
I don't use them anymore & also avoid using hotlines.

I feel online counseling is more of a one time thing or something you're not suppose to use for probably more than a week. It maybe good for most people though, for just emergencies mainly.

If you think that is any different with "real" doctors....

I used to have one doctor who had gone completely insane but nobody had pulled her license yet, she used to walk out in the middle of seeing people to go SHOPPING.

We had to void her contract so fast. I've had so many doctors snap on me before. There is a reason they suicide at a rate 5 times higher than normal.

Yeah, my psychiatrist
is a dick.

He has basically decided that
because I used to be a drug addict
that I'll abuse anything he gives me
and pretty much that I'm worthless

He treats everyone as if they
are beneath him
