We've all seen bad movies, but what about the ones that could have been really good? When I think about this topic, the first that comes to mind would be David Lynch's take on "Dune". Here is a talented director who seemed like the perfect choice to bring Frank Herberts's classic sci-fi novel to the screen. While the movie had some impressive sets and F/X, it was bogged down by bad acting (don't get me started with Sting's overacting and whoever it was who played Barron Harkonnen, talk about over the top), rushed through vast portions of the novel and turned into a trainwreak. I've read that Lynch himself wasn't too happy with this movie, he almost never talk about it in interviews. But unlike some other directors, his career managed to bounce back with stuff like "Blue Velvet" and the "Twin Peaks" TV series. Maybe he wasn't the right director for "Dune". What if the late Stanley Kubric made it? What about Ridley Scott or even Terry Gilliam? Prior and after "Dune", Lynch's movies were either low or middle budget indies, not $45 million dollar epics. Sometimes Hollywood needed to look a little more carefully with who they choose as the director.

I loved the Dune series and was so disappointed with movie but to be honest I think I have seen it maybe 6 times cause and even 4 hour version I still love characters and when its on Scfi channel I watch again even though I bought DVD copy lol Frank Herbert was a genius with ideas about Sci-Fi

Eragon! The movie was digustingly bad and to be honest the books were poorly written but I still think the plot was compelling enough to make a great movie series..

Also, I hate to say it but the Hobbit movies were disappointing (as much as I enjoyed the extra Legolas material)

I agree with this 100%. They really screwed up Eragon. It's like they didn't even read the series.
