*Note: I don't know if aniphobia refers to a different/real aliment so if it does, sorry!

Do you know people who just hate anime? Are they your friends? Family? Classmates?

How do you deal with it? I personally have no one in my life who's interested in anime and many more who are reluctant to start watching and I was wondering how others deal with it. I kind of just forget about them, but it gets a little annoying when I'm the only one who knows what I'm talking about in a conversation or when a subtle reference pops up in a popular show.

Want to know your thoughts!

People like what they like and dislike what they dont like.

I do think its kinda out there to term peoples dislike of anime as "aniphobia" like its somehow a clinical ailment or bigoted sentiment. Only furthers nerdoms persecution complex. Im getting ahead of myself though and really dont want to get off on the wrong foot.

My point is people like what they like and dislike what they dont like. Demanding someone has the same taste as you is kinda douchey in my book. If you dont have anyone to talk to about anime join a club or a forum.

When I was younger, I always wanted my parents to try watching anime with me. I eventually realized that it was never going to happen, and that was okay.
Maybe try to meet other anime fans in a local club or Facebook group for your area?

I was the one who brought everybody out of the closest about anime at work. On my shift I work with about 60 people everyday. When I started wearing shirts with anime characters/logos on them to work more and more people started talking about anime. I even got some casual watchers to binge out some series so we could relate about the series. So I did find peace there. But yes there are some among us who are like... "you guys watch anime??!? ?....?" I straight up tell them yeah, it's freaking awesome. I don't push anime on people who don't like it. But if you do... if you do.... I'm your new best buddie. hah

Yeah, I mean the people who perpetuate stereotypes of those who watch anime and not just those who don't watch it. I didn't make it clear and it was kind of a joke term I just came up with on the fly for a title. I won't force people to like thinks they don't like, but I probably shouldn't have used a term to generalize. It's their choice and I explained it incorrectly! Sorry! XS

Ehh its fine.

I do actually understand people who perpetuate stereotypes about those who watch anime cause (I may get flack for this) alot of its kinda true. I have met alot of anime fans who wont shut up about it and are generally assholes to people who dont understand every minute detail about anime or Japan. Those people are in every fandom but they show up the most in PC gaming, anime, and devotees of military hardware.

that's a term?

well idc most people 'round here dont even know what it is haha

I can see why people wouldn't like anime (especially like the stuff you often see nowadays...)
If they don't like anime, that's fine.

I don't really care, I watch anime by myself and that's all that matters.

It doesn't bother me if people don't like anime and/or manga. I leave them to their own devices and don't pass judgement on them for failing to even try it. There are a lot of things I don't like (ie. The Kardashians) and I would hope they wouldn't force me to watch their shows as well.

I have more shame about watching Teen Mom than I have ever had about anime. A close friend of mine admitted that she watches Toddlers & Tiaras because it made her feel like a better parent.

I think it's a lot easier now to publicly like anime than it was in the past.

Aniphobia? So am I a realitytvaphobiac then? I dunno when you say Aniphobia, I assume that you mean people actively hostile to my watching of it, to which I say, I don't have to because none of my friends give enough of a shit to feel that strongly about what I'm watching XD

Aniphobia as in people who are hostile against anime watchers is barely non existant in the West, to be honest.
People who say all anime are childish exist, but I don't mind it that much. If I come across one of these, I try to point out some good anime to change his mind, but if he doesen't want to watch it, I'm also not bothered.
I guess people have different tastes/prejudices?
