Any love for Android TV from the Crunchyroll devs? While sideloading the mobile app works reasonably for browsing the queue and streaming, it would be nice to see an integrated 'leanback' version. I see that the WiiU app is halfway there design-wise ...

Is it on the roadmap, perhaps?

I want to get one of those amazing Nvidia Shields but the only thing holding me back is the lack of Crunchyroll. So I started working on a Java version of Crunchyroll which should be easy to port to AndroidTV. The UI is all made in HTML so it will be easy to port to almost anything. I have a version in Java and a Windows universal app.

There are a few of things that dont work yet like:

- add/remove queue
- video playback in windows universal app ( universal apps cant play HLS videos )
- search

But I'll get there eventually. Once I''m happy with the Java app, I'll try and port to Android.

Might do better in the suggestions and feedback sub-forum, but for what it is worth... I second (or third rather) this motion.

An Android TV app is an excellent suggestion, could watch more shows on my new Sony tv set

I've actually bought recently a Hisense Vidaa K600 tv. Althought it runs a complete android os, I could install the regular crunchyroll app on it. But for somewhat reason it is completely unusable. Heavy buffering even thought I can use it with kodi or a console (in my case, wiiu & ps3) without any issues. I tried in both wifi and wired connection. So I think a legit android tv app would be more than welcome!!

Just wanted to post my thanks here to the devs for the just released Android TV version, it's much appreciated. Looking forward to seeing how it develops from this initial release!

So now: where do you want the bug reports?

Thanks for the Leanback code and overall the app appears to work flawlessly!!

The only minor issue (for later release consideration) that I've seen so far is that the pause requires full caching to start back up. Other than that it has been a nice upgrade.

Again, thanks

OK, I'm just going to note these here as I'm not really interested in posting to a support black hole. Some issues:

1. The UI has a mixture of custom menus and Android TV ones. On the front page this is particularly noticeable, with the tabs along the top and the unnecessary and over-large Queue and History 'buttons' on the left. The Play Store app currently is a better example of how to apply these different hierarchical menus using the left pullout menu.

2. The video thumbnails on the main page, queue and on series info pages are way too large, leading to very low information density. A size option in Settings would be handy.

3. The Back button is broken in a number of places, e.g. view series details > view episode info > Back ... will take you back to the home screen instead.

4. There is no integration with universal search or recommendations on Android TV home screen.

5. There is frequent buffering and spinning wheels in both the UI (like when navigating back to home) and when playing video.

6. The play controls for video are very crude, too large and opaque. They block a large portion of the screen right in the middle, and don't disappear on timeout or Back, as in other apps. This means if you pause to read something more closely on screen, you can't actually see it ...

7. The skip forward/back buttons are now only rw/ff buttons that you have to tap gently to e.g. go back/forward 10 seconds. Too finickety in practice even to skip the opening/closing credits. The previous tablet UI that worked with remotes or keyboard simply allowed left/right click on the remote for such skips, this was better. Even better is the example of Hulu's & Netflix's navigable timelines, with thumbnail previews of scenes.

8. On the full Queue page, all (over-large) thumbnails but the currently selected one are darkened/faded. This makes the queue more difficult to scan than it needs to be.

9. There is no option to change manually video quality/bitrate anymore.

10. There is no ability to re-order the queue, or to sort it differently. This is lacking on the mobile app as well, though.

I have the app for my Shield TV. It works great for new anime, but it stretches 4:3 content. I wish there was a setting to enable black bars on old content.

I've only tested it on the Lupin III stuff so far. When I view it on my Android tablet it displays the correct aspect ratio, but on the shield Android TV it stretches it.

Edit: Specifically Lupin the 3rd Part 1
